Try to keep your lunch down

So it is that David Eckstein, at 5-foot-7, takes on so many comers – kidney disease, organ donation, children who need a push, stereotypes of pro athletes, and A.J. Pierzynski's pile driver. And then he plays a full baseball season plus a month, bats .364 and drives in four runs in the World Series, and allows a nation's baseball fans to fall in love without fear of betrayal.

Six years ago he showed up in Angels camp with a glove and a crooked cap, no one sure his arm would last that afternoon, much less nearly 900 big-league games. Now he's a career .283 hitter, a career pest, a career inspiration, a career gamer.

I respect David Eckstein as the next guy, but dang, this "love affair" the media has for the baseball midget is ridiculous. We don't need to hear about Eckstein, as much as we don't need to hear about the Yanks/Red Sox. Both stories just makes me wanna puke.

Eckstein strained his oblique, fyi.

David Eckstein can "oblique" my balls, Cap-E-Tan.

David Eckstein can "oblique" his own balls, thank you very much

oh good, now the post-dispatch will be able to talk about how awesome he is for "playing through the pain" all season

Why on earth do you care so much? If some retards in the press want to act like he is anything more than a decent baseball player that is their problem. Just turn the channel or don't read the article.

probably because it perpetuates the myths so many of the sabremetric folks despise so much. He's a mediocre player whose reputation outstrips his talent based largely on intangible attributes (scrappiness, heart, etc.).

A lot of people here would like to see that line of thinking go away, party because they philosophically disagree with it so much, and partly because our GM still subscribes to the "gamer" philosphy, and it drivs most of us crazy.

The part about your gm of choice buying in is legit. Any other is reason because of personal belief is a waste of time. It is easier to ignore it unless you are just perpetuating the criticism to be a part of the cool kids who agree.

I don't like Eck that much. I respect what he has done and his hard work, but I realize he is what he is, and what he is isn't spectalcular. Yes he is overrated, but I'm not going to waste my time trying to be firejoemorgan jr. by bring to everyone's attention every wrong thing printed about him ever. If I did that, I'd be way to busy to get as drunk as I am right now.
