I did a public league this morning, basically to practice for the draft I'm doing this evening. Anyway, its a 12 man league. Anyway, here's the team I came out with, I'm pretty pleased:

C- Kenji Johjima

1B- Derrek Lee

2B- Howie Kendrick

3B- Miguel Cabrera

SS- Stephen Drew

OF- Jason Bay

OF- Magglio Ordóñez

OF- J.D. Drew

Util- Matt Murton

BN- Akinori Iwamura

BN- Lastings Milledge

SP- Brandon Webb

SP- Félix Hernández

RP- Akinori Otsuka

RP- Ryan Dempster

P- Mark Prior

P- Ervin Santana

P- Zach Duke

BN- Kei Igawa

BN- Humberto Sanchez

BN- Mark Buehrle

Overall I'd say i have a very solid team, with quite a bit riding on some young guys. Anyway, its a 12 team league. How do you guys think i did?

I'll post my second draft tonight after it happens.

Wow. Plan on playing in the league championship with that team.

Couple of moves I'd make with that team is dropping Murton, Milledge and Sanchez.

You need someone that will play everyday at your utility spot. Murton won't be that guy. Milledge is blocked as well with Beltran, Shawn Green and Moises Alou. Sanchez might work in relief, but I doubt he sees the rotation this year unless some injuries happen.

Maggs and Drew are injury risks, so I'd look for an outfield guy you can stick at utility. If you want a young guy for your bench, look and see if Alex Gordon, Andy Marte, Dustin Pedroia or Wilson Betemit are available. Those guys will play regulary.

I'm assuming this isn't a keeper league, otherwise cancel the Milledge and Sanchez drops.

Yeah, I wasnt sure exactly where Milledge and Sanchez were as far as starting/sitting so i picked them up with my last two picks.

Oh, and I just looked and saw that Brian Giles and Jacque Jones both went undrafted.

I love public leagues. Anyway, guess who I'm picking up as soon as they go off waivers.

I like your team, Roast.

Murton and Milledge should be dropped just b/c of lack of AB. I like Kendrick a lot. DLee should have a very nice year. JD Drew is going to score a ton of runs in Boston's lineup and should add to his HR totals.

Zach Duke isn't my favorite. He's likely to suffer in terms of K, WHIP, and W, so I don't know if he'd be my fantasy choice. Have you looked at Lincecum and Bailey? I think one of those two guys are going to be this year's Liriano. 8-)

Thanks for the heads up on Lincecum, i know he went undrafted, so I'll probably pick him up. Oh, and here is my second team, as promised. I'm not sure I like the league set-up (my buddy created it, it's on MLB.com). But it's just me and a group of friends so I figured I'd give it a try. It's set up a lot like a football league with team defense, or in this case, team pitching.

C- Ramon Hernandez

1B- Travis Hafner

2B- Dan Uggla

3B- Troy Glaus

SS- Stephen Drew

OF- Carl Crawford

OF- Vladimir Guerrero

OF- Matt Holliday

P- Milwaukee Brewers

Bench

Bn- Howie Kendrick

Bn- Yuniesky Betancourt

Bn- Morgan Ensberg

Bn- Nick Johnson

Bn- Nick Swisher

Bench

Bn-Arizona Diamondbacks (P , ARI)

Now, I really didn't mean to draft Nick Johnson. I meant to draft Nick Swisher, but clicked the wrong Nick. Luckily, Swisher held on till my next pick, so I grabbed him then.

I've never seen that team pitching thing. That's pretty nuts. Nick Johnson actually isn't too bad of a pick (if you have DL spots). He's gonna be out awhile but he can flat out hit when healthy. I like the Swisher pick a lot though. He should have a fantastic year.
