Don't they carry existing broadcasts, like XM does on the radio side? If so, there's a tv & radio broadcast schedule for the Cubs and teams playing the Cubs in the Game Threads Forum.

I'm not familiar with how XM does their programming but MLB does have archived games. For instance, current MLB.TV members can view past games from 2005 & 2006 (and Gameday Audio subscribers can listen). Available games are Spring Training, Regular Season, and Postseason (listen only).

MLB also allows you to listen and view BaseballChannel.tv, MLBradio, and Podcasts. These features are free BTW.

I wasn't very clear in my question. MLB.tv doesn't independently do broadcasts, correct? I thought the broadcasts they carry are the WGNtv or Comcast or whatever game broadcasts.

If that's the case, the schedule in the game thread forum has all the tv & radio broadcasts of the Cubs spring training games that I could find (still missing AZ DBacks broadcast info).

Ah, I see what your saying. I could be wrong but I think Electron was looking for the full ST schedule of all the team's games. That's what I was referring to when I said no schedule was listed... When they do get around to posting it, the dates and times of the games will be available to select. Audio listeners can also choose between Home and Away broadcasts.

that's a good point Laura - I suppose if no one (i.e. WGN comcast, etc.) isn't broadcasting the game, MLB.tv won't carry it either.

98Navigator, you sound like you have been a member for at least a year or two. Do they archive whole games for subscribers? Like, later this year, could I watch a game from early april in its entirity? Does this archive include games from previous seasons? I'm pretty excited to have mlb.tv this, since I live outside of Chicago.

I wish the organization had the courage to say "we just don't know yet, we'll have to wait and see", rather than making optimistic predictions, or, in this case, reinforcing Prior's optimistic predictions.

IIRC, isn't that the stance they pretty much took all of last year?

I have been a member for a couple of seasons. To answer your question, yes, they do have whole games archived for the previous two seasons. Until the regular season begins subscribers can access 2005 games (the available list is always the current and previous Spring Training, Regular Season, and Postseason audio). You can watch an April 2005 game in March 2007.

Both Standard and Premium MLB.tv also offers condensed games in the same package. I like watching the archived games as if it were live so I don't like this feature as much but apparently some people do...

Here's some update info from the Suntimes on the rotation as well as the other scheduled pitchers:

• • Thursday against the San Francisco Giants: right-hander Jason Marquis starting, with several young pitchers scheduled in relief.

• • Friday against the Los Angeles Angels: righty Carlos Zambrano starting, with left-handers Neal Cotts and Will Ohman and righty Bob Howry among the relievers.

• • Saturday against the Oakland Athletics in Phoenix: righty Wade Miller starting, with closer Ryan Dempster, Michael Wuertz and Carlos Marmol in relief.

• • Sunday against the White Sox: lefty Rich Hill, followed by Juan Mateo and Scott Eyre.

• • Monday against the Seattle Mariners in Peoria: lefty Ted Lilly starting.

...Cotts is scheduled to throw two innings Friday, equal to a spring-opening start, and Piniella said Cotts will start some games as he gets stretched out for either a chance to make the starting rotation or possibly as a long reliever.

''He's been throwing the ball as well as anybody we have in camp,'' Piniella said.

Reading that makes me wish I could see all those games on TV!

As for Cotts, the more quality arms the better.

I think I might be getting a little excited about that Cotts trade.

Me too. He's Bruce Miles' comments about Cotts as an early standout:

Reliever Neal Cotts threw some live batting practice, and his curve and other breaking pitches, along with his changeup, looked really good.

So once again the Cubs tell us that Prior is healthy and once again we find out shortly after that he's being "held out of starts to regain arm strength", which indicates the team still has concerns about whether he's actually healthy or not, and/or his arm strength is not "ahead of schedule", but rather "behind schedule".

Expect an announcement about Prior going throwing a simulated game rather than a ST game about 2 days before he's scheduled to start.

Oh come on. He's got nothing left to prove in simulated games.

I am too. I believe Cotts will handle the long relief/spot starter slot very well this year.

That is great news. Hopefully Cotts can rebound from last year.

It certainly seems that regardless of what happens with Prior, the Cubs have plenty of options in their starting rotation this year. We could do worse than Cotts/Guzman as a fifth starter.

Piniella on Guzman and Gallagher:

"Guzman looked good," Piniella said of the right-hander, whose career has been slowed by injuries. "The ball really comes out of his hand nice and easy. He's got good movement. It was impressive. The other kid [Gallagher] hasn't been pitching all that long, but he had really good stuff."

Blanco on Guzman

"It's a big difference from last year," Blanco said of the right-hander, who was 4-4 with a 4.04 ERA in 15 starts last season at Triple-A Iowa and 0-6 with a 7.39 ERA in 15 games with the big-league team. "His velocity is back; he has better command."

I don't know if anyone else has seen the story on cubs.com but it is saying that Prior's start has been moved up to Monday the 5th against Seattle.

Paul Sullivan on Piniella's plans for upcoming Cactus League games:

Piniella also said Wood will throw in his first game in the early part of next week, and that he plans on letting catchers Michael Barrett and Henry Blanco call their own pitches "the vast majority" of the time.

"If I do [call pitches] at all, it'll be in crucial times and when I have a real good idea," Piniella said. "If not, I'll let the catcher handle it."

What sign do they use for "For God's sake please throw a strike"?

Someone punch me in the face and tell me not to get excited about Prior and Wood please.

Honestly if these 2 guys are ready it will a very very nice addition to this team. Imagine the decision Lou is going to have to make when it comes to trimming these guys down to 25?
