Most of what is here is stuff we've read from the local beat writers, but I thought I would share the link.

Floyd does comment on platooning.

"I thought about a lot of things in the offseason," Floyd said. "Would I be OK with platooning? If my play dictates it, I'll accept that role. But in my mind, I'm not ready for that. My mind-set is to go out there and play every day. I know this might be my last opportunity to do that."

"If Lou wants to rotate guys in and out, I'm not going to [gripe] and moan," Floyd said. "Come out to the park and be ready to play. That's what I told Matty [Murton]. I don't have the attitude of, 'I'm the man and you're the kids and I'm taking over.' I'm here to help these guys."

Thanks Vance and please keep posting this stuff!

I like the fact that he has the confidence to want to be the guy and I hope he remains realistic on his abilities and his role on the Cubs.

Yeah, I don't mind the first quote either. Floyd thinks that he can play his way into being the everyday starter if he's the best outfielder of the 3 corner ones-I don't mind him thinking that, and I don't mind if it happens as long as he actually earns it and doesn't get it handed to him for nothing or after just a few at-bats.

Love the second quote ... not so much the first. :x

I don't think the first one is that bad. He's basically just saying he thinks he's still good enough (and healthy enough) to play everyday. I think there's a good chance he's wrong, but there's nothing wrong with him being confident in his abilities.

Well, as much as people complain (myself included) about Murton getting less AB, we have a good problem in LF.

We're going to get good offensive production out of LF this season.

Yeah and if the Cubs are getting good production out of all 4 it will be a wonderful problem to have.

Yep, I'd rather be talking about Floyd and Murton than Hollandsworth and Dubois.

I'm all open to playing the player that is contributing at the moment. We all know that players have their ups and downs. The second quote was great and hopefully it works out for both Floyd and Murton so they both can get some playing time.

I don't agree on the first so much. Basically he is saying if he can BE the productive cliff floyd, he should be playing every day. And there's no problem in that what-so-ever. If he can produce, he can add even more potency to this line-up. .

However if he doesn't, then Murton is the man. We have a situation where we haven't had before. Not just depth, but GOOD depth. Remember back to holly/dubuois? Well how does murton/floyd sound compared to that? A heck of a lot better.

As much as I like Murton, if Floyd can put up numbers like he did in 1999-2005, he's a better player than Murton. Personally, I really doubt that's going to happen. With Floyd, with the explosion in his numbers during that period and the injury problems the last two years, you can't help but think "was he juicing?" Either way, he's now 34 and isn't likely to return to prime form. If he takes a lot of Murton's AB's for an OPS of just around .800, then I'll be a bit peeved.

The first quote by Floyd, just shows that he is still a competitive player. And I'm hoping Floyd pushes Murton, and vice versa. And if there a situation of a straight platoon, I guess I could live Murton in a platoon situation with Floyd. Not with someone like Hollandsworth, but someone who can actually produce.
