With the Nixon signing the Indians now have about 14 outfielders and 1B/DH options. We should taget one of their surplus for a platoon parter for Jones. Michaels would be perfect in the role and probably wouldn't cost much. And when Pie comes up he could slide to 4th OF. If we wanted to give up more we might be able to pry Frankie Gutierrez. Both do quite well against lefties. Thoughts? Edited by nilodnayr

I believe Michaels just signed with them, would be suprised to see him involved in any trade....

They traded for Michaels last year, and he didn't do what they wanted, so he's probably pretty far down the list.

Weren't their options to sign him, release him, or go to arbi with him? They sorta had to sign him. If they really liked him they wouldn't have signed Delucci and Nixon especially with Blake, Garko, Choo, Gutierrez, Crowe and God only knows who else they have coming up that I don't know about.

That doesn't mean anything, though. For example, the Cubs traded Farnsworth very shortly after he signed a contract in 2005.

Yeah, they wanted him to hit and knock in runs, which he didn't do. He's a nice platoon player against lefties, nothing more.

He got mad pimpage here while he was in Philly (including me), and while he was never a full time player his OPS vs righties was passable before last year. It may be risky to use him as a full time player, but he definitely would be a big upgrade as a platoon parter/4th OF.

blake would be a good option since he could backup AR

For some reason I think that of the myriad of players who are going to split time in those positions, Blake is one of their favorites. Plus, I'd rather get a guy who can play CF.

While we're at it, I hear they have some kid named Sizemore who can play CF. Okay, I'm only kidding.

Who?

Tom Sizemore...although he makes Dukes and Delmon look like choir boys.

Actually I meant Grady Sizemore.

He was kidding, Tom played Pete Rose in the ESPN movie about Rose.

Biggest Emmy snub EVER (including Susan Lucci). :)

Anything can happen, but it sure sounds to me like Hendry's going with what he already has in the OF.

I'd still love to see us get a Westbrook/Michaels deal done with maybe Marshall, Eyre and maybe a B prospect going to CLE. Your rotation than looks like Z, Westbrook, Hill, Lilly & Marquis, Prior, Miller, Guzman fighting it out for #5. I like that rotation so much better. And lets get Westbrook an extension. Can we afford him $$$ though?

I'm not sure the Indians would go for that trade, but I would love to see it. If Miller and/or Prior is healthy and Marquis/Guzman pitch decently, you would have a strong starting staff plus plenty of trade bait at mid-season.

Yeah, we were both being sarcastic. :D

I doubt CLE bites on that deal too but it sure would shore up our rotation and likely make it one of the best in the bigs. I bet they hold on to Westbrook until closer to the trade deadline unless just overwhelmed with an offer before then.
