Santo misses the HOF again, this time by 5 votes.

All is quiet on the Eastern front...thus far. He will get in eventually, although he should have been in long ago. Has the injury bug hit camp yet???

Sean Marshall is about a week behind because of shoulder problems from the end of last season and the offseason. Kerry Wood is a few days behind because of his rib injury from falling out of a hot tub.

The games start on Thursday (37 hours to go). Here are the scheduled starters:

Thursday: Jason Marquis vs. the Giants

Friday: Carlos Zambrano vs. the Angels

Saturday: Wade Miller vs. the A's

Sunday: Rich Hill vs. the White Sox

Monday: Mark Prior vs. the Mariners

It's been some time since this has been updated, here's some more info:

Some of the biggest news on the pitching side is that it seems Mark Prior is injury-free but throwing without confidence, and as a result he will soon go to minor league camp. Angel Guzman is throwing the ball well (mid to upper 90s velocity) and seems like the best choice for the fifth starter as of now.

Rocky Cherry, Hill, Zambrano, and Dempster are striking out more than 1 batter/inning.

On the offensive side, Felix Pie (.333/.379/.333) is making a lot of people wonder if he'll be on the major league roster to start the season (doesn't seem like it), and Hendry and Piniella have to figure out what to do with our crowded outfield situation.

That's about it for now, only a couple weeks left.

Stay safe over there!!!

It's good to hear Guzman is doing well especially since Prior is doing so poorly. I heard Prior's velocity has fallen off. Is it improving?

Pie will be in Iowa in my opinion. No rush when the outfield is already crowded. In the near future I see a regular outfield of Murton, Pie, with Soriano moved to RF. I hope Murton starts on a regular basis. I'd hate to see him in a platoon role.

Thanks for the updates...

Actually, Prior is just pitching in the minor league game, not going to the minor league camp. It's been thought that they're doing it so he can pitch with less attention and no TV cameras (and also so he might not be booed if he does poorly?). Hill is also pitching in minor league games just to get innings.

Prior's first start was in the 83-86 range and his last appearance was in the 86-88 range. He's topped out at 89, didn't throw his curve in his first game and struggled with command of it (and his fastball) last time out.

Thanks to all those who have contributed thus far, but I will no longer need this thread to keep up. My wife is going to record the games on DVD and send them to me. I'll probably have to wait until 15 April or so to see opening day but at least I'll get to see it.

This thread can be un-stickied...thanks again
