ESPN[/url]"]Tony La Russa was expected

to give Adam Wainwright a look for his 2007 rotation. Braden

Looper might be coming along for the ride.

La Russa disclosed Tuesday that his World Series champion St.

Louis Cardinals could conceivably explore a host of current

relievers for starting roles next season, including Looper, who

never has started a game in nine major league seasons.

"We're going to go into spring training and stretch out Adam,

Braden, Brad (Thompson) even Josh (Kinney)," La Russa said.

"We'll see how they do."

This would be, by far, the best thing that us Cub fans could hope for. Please come true.

It being the Cardinals, expect at least two of them to be 20 game winners next year.

They'll also bat .340 with 8 hr and 25 RBI a piece.

Don't forget those Cards pitchers would also help LaRussa cure all forms of cancers, and establish everlasting world peace.

Thompson and Wainwright I can understand... Looper? He's never started a game! I can't imagine they'd convert a moderately successful middle reliever into a starter at this stage of his career.

Smoke screen. Just trying to keep the incoming starters not named Carpenter motivated.

I fully expect Wainwright to be a starter for you next year. Not that it is a bad thing.

Personally, they need to keep him as a closer. He was nasty as closer. I think Wainwright loses value as a starter.

I agree he was nasty as a closer, but the thought of having a good pitcher over six innings as to just one if he is closing has to be tempting.

Isringhausen is apparently going to be ready early and Jocketty wasn't going to get held up in this market for pitching. If there are no trades made, Wainright would/should start.

Isringhausen would have to prove to me that he could be an effective closer again. At times last year he looked washed up. How much was physical, how much was mental and how much he is just done remains to be seen.

I agree, but I'd be up for a Kinney/Looper/Flores/Johnson committee until he is back.
