Baltimore Sun[/url]"]The Orioles have struck out to this point in adding a slugger to the middle of their lineup, but they are having no such problems in overhauling their bullpen. According to club sources, the Orioles have agreed in principal to a three-year deal with Atlanta Braves free-agent reliever Danys Baez, who will join recent acquisition Jamie Walker as one of Chris Ray's primary set-up men.

Baez's deal hinges on the right-hander passing a physical, which could happen as early as Monday. Though exact terms of the deal aren't known, it is believed the Orioles will pay between $5 million and $6 million per season for the 29-year-old pitcher, who has 111 saves in six big league seasons.

I know you're comment had nothing to do with the Cubs, but let's not forget their SP situation.

Last I checked the Cubs have 2 starting pitchers that they can count on for innings in '07. One of them (Hill) is not a sure bet being that it's going to be his first full season in the league. The Cubs still need 2 SP's at least, and unless one of them is a top of the rotation guy, the Cubs need for the SP's to have career years. Hendry appears to want to win in '07, so I would assume he will bring some guys in, but at this time I'm concerned with what the Cubs have to put out there.

Its not a bad idea considering no one in their rotation can last more than 6 innings, many averaging 5 and change IIRC. Also, its great that one team is stocking up on bullpen arms and driving up their price while doing so. Especially when that team really was never a trading partner with us (Eyre ain't gonna get us Miggy). Our arms are looking more and more valuable in this market.
