Carlos Lee, LF--Texas Rangers: Early speculation had him signing a contract with the Astros pretty quickly, but Chicago papers believe that the Cubs are his preferred suitor. Orioles and Red Sox interested. Giants, Orioles, Astros and Rangers are pursuing him very agressively. Astros made their first offer of at least 5-years, $60M.

No way we sign him now with Soriano locked up... right?

But we have to get everyone who tops the FA list (including 3 pitchers) and A-Rod.

Lee would look nice in our lineup. But from my estimation, hes a corner OF. We'd have to put Soriano in CF (which im fine with), but I'm not sure Hendry is fine with that.

Think lee would take a slight discount (but with an extra year or two) to play here?

If you look at the link to Rosenthal, it says how we aren't pursuing him. Plus it's from a couple days ago.

I'm sure C Lee wants to come here even more, now that we have Soriano. It's pretty apparent we are going to get 2 starters as well. We went from bottom of the league, to strong contenders, in one offseason that is not even over yet.

I would certainly hope nobody is entertaining that idea. C Lee money = JD Drew money. That is a no-brainer if there ever was such a thing.

On the other hand, Lee is a horse, while Drew is like Mark Prior; even the slightest little nick and he's on the DL. I'd rather have a guy with a lifetime OPS of 1000 at Wrigley Field, knowing he will start 150+ games a year for me. And like D Lee, C Lee has deceptive speed--19 stolen bases?

Assuming the Cubs can pawn Jones off on someone, I'd happily move Murton to RF, put Lee in LF, with Fonzie in the middle. What an awesome lineup we'd have at that point. All Hendry would need do then is trade Prior and Pie for Miggy Tejada, and we have our own version of Murderer's Row.

I thought Tejada didn't want to move to 2B? I doubt ARod's going to move there. Interesting predicament...

More pitchers needed there are.

Matt Murton doesn't have the tools for RF. I still would love to see him set in LF, but not if that means that you can't get Carlos Lee.

I hope that they are saving lots of money for starting pitching. How sweet would a Dontrelle Willis trade be?

Hehe...nice. Maybe we can make ARod the #2 starting pitcher and also have him be our closer. He can do it.

Look at Murtons numbers after the break! Hopefully another outfielder will not be replacing him.

If Willis is being spun off for ARod? It would be awesome. If it would be to play for the Cubs? Not worth what he would cost. Willis is far more valuable for what he can get you with his name than with his actual pitching.

Murton definitely needs to stay in LF. For one thing the Cubs don't have enough money left to go after anyone else for left, and for another Murton has earned a shot to prove he can be a great player in the majors.

Sweet Jebus, if Hendry's backup plan was signing Lee and bringing in Lugo to play center, $135 million is looking like the steal of the century.

Exactly, lets not get too excited just yet.

I've been saying this for a few days but a Carlos Lee could happen I think he will take a discount and really wants to play for the Cubs and have a chance to stick it to Kenny Williams and stay in the midwest.

I hope he's open to a bench job.
