The Chicago Cubs today announced Sharon Pannozzo has resigned as director of media relations for the club effective December 31, 2006. Ms. Pannozzo will remain with the club through December 31 to ensure a smooth transition for the organization.

"We thank Sharon for her many years of service to the Cubs and the media and we wish her great success in all her future endeavors,” said Cubs’ President John McDonough.

No decision on a replacement has been made as yet. Pannozzo joined the Cubs in 1982 as a public relations assistant. She was promoted to assistant director of media relations in 1986 and named media relations director in December 1990.

I accept.

My first job would be to adopt Dr. Clayton Forrester and TV'S Frank's suggest ion for theme days...

- Slide Whistle / Brass KNuckle night. First 1000 lucky kids get slide whistles. The second 1000 kids get brass knuckles. THen the first 1000 kids become unlucky.

- San Diego Chicken night. First 10000 people get a crossbow to take potshots at the Chicken

- Dow Corning Fiberglass Insulation night.

Then I would creat a new marketing slogan:

The Chicago Cubs. It Can't Get Any Worse... Can It?

Those are tasks for Marketing not media relations.

I'll take it. My first order will be to hire LaTroy Hawkins as my personal assistant and media escort in the locker room after games.

If you get the job, be sure to issue a press pass to NSBB. ;)

Hmm...Andy leaves, now Sharon. Maybe it's the inner-conspiracy theorist in me, but its seems like there's an "abandon ship" kind of thought process in some of the front office folks. Of course, my basis for that is only 2 people, nonetheless it's the first thing that crossed my mind.

Great link Sunnydoo, I don't think Bobby Knight could have done any better. Is that for real? Did he really say all that stuff to reporters? That's great...

I see Uncle Lou going on a tirade like that, I would guess his age hasn't made him any more mellow, but maybe not with quite so much profanity.
