This could be a good spot for news/ rumors for the next couple of days.

Starts today in Naples and I wonder if Hendry will be looking for trades while there. I don't think all the Cubs' holes can be filled via free agency, and while the Cubs don't have a ton of guys on the farm they do have money, which is attractive to teams trying to shed payroll or rid themselves of players they don't like.

Burrell?

A. Jones/ Hudson?

Dunn?

Kearns?

Will Hendry push hard for the free agents he wants this soon?

Look for the ARod trade talks to heat up. I think Sweet Lou will push hard for this one. Just my opinion.

I can't believe I forgot that one!

Perhaps Willis and/ or Cabrera are moved this week? (Probably not to the Cubs, but they could be moved for a boatload of good young players)

I'm really curious what the Phillies are going to be seeking for Burrell. It could be a nice acquisition depending on the price (in talent).

I'm as desperate as anyone to see a big bat go with D-lee and Aram but i wouldn't mind Lugo being the next signing. Leadoff and SS solved in one. I would be asking about Andruw Jones and also how about the WS as a trading partner?? Gracia or Mcarthy for Dempster and a couple of prospects?? would they have interest in Jaque for LF?

I'm going to guess that the Tampa OF's become a big part of the discussion at the meetings.

And I'll also guess that none of them get moved.

I think Tampa is to greedy, in that I think they must ask for to much for thier players and maybe thats why they never really make many deals. They look for the Kazmir trade to happen again and its highly unlikely that they will ever get a trade that lopsided again.

I'm missing something on this one. ARod has stated already that he has no intentions of leaving NYY, and wants to make it work. Cashman has gone on record saying (more than once since the end of the season) that they have absolutely no intention of trading him. Boras has also chimed in saying that ARod holds the "hammer" with his no-trade saying he won't waive it. So again, am I missing something here?

Jim Hendry "Sammy Sosa will be the Cubs starting RF in 2005."

Was he?

I dont know why people keep bringing it up, its a great dream but in reality we dont have the talent to pull it off and Alex apparently doesnt want to go anywhere. If they Yankees wanted to trade him they could get many better offers than what the Cubs are able to offer and probably places that are more attractive to Alex (if he actually wanted to be moved).

Yes, Tampa always seems to be satisfied with getting their clocks cleaned every year unless someone is willing to offer the moon for one of their players.

Whatever else can be said about Piniella, it's really no wonder he got frustrated and wanted to put distance between himself and the Rays.

Huh? Whats that got to do with the Cubs trading for someone that has a notrade clause and doesnt want to be traded. I dont think its any more likely than the Cubs trading for Ryan Howard or David Ortiz.

On the surface it seems to be a moot point. But my theory is that Alex doesn't want to look like he's giving up on NY. He doesn't want to admit that NY beat him, or at least give that impression. Likewise, it serves Cashman no good to say anything other than "we have no intention of trading Alex." And Boras bringing up the no-trade clause is just typical Boras speak for, "The player will have final say about where he plays."

I don't think there's a great chance he gets traded, but it's certainly not an impossibility. And it's certainly not anything like Ryan Howard or David Ortiz getting traded.

I just said look for the trade talks to start heating up....I never said it would happen. You just never know. Thats what makes the Hot Stove talk so much fun. ANYTHING could happen.

I dont think its an immpossiblity that he gets traded but I think its very unlikely that he gets traded to us. I dont think Hendry would be willing to give them Zambrano and beyond that I dont see much that would intrest the Yankees.

Well, A-Rod can't say "uh, reunite me with Uncle Lou and I'll take a trade", because that kills the Yankees bargaining posture and he likely has enough loyalty to at least want to leave New York with them getting a good return.

I could see a deal happen, but it's going to have to be a three way deal because I'm not sure we have the parts to make it happen otherwise. Such as, perhaps a deal that sends a bunch of farmhands to Florida for Willis, and then Willis gets dealt in a deal for A-Rod.

That was Lamar - they seemed more willing to do deals under the new mgmnt last year. I think they will make a trade this offseason.

Thats is basically what I'm saying. It will be explored.

We'll see if that was the byproduct of the GM or the ownership. Hunsicker is competent, but if he's under mandate from ownership to attempt to recreate the Kazmir deal whenever possible, well, yeah.

as for the drays they are way to greedy! Or just flat out dumb! My friends a Sox fan and some guy posted something on White Sox interactive about all the dumb moves there GM has made in like the past 5 years and they were pretty bad.
