Didn't he miss one start due to the achilles?

He missed the first two months of 2004.

Shoot, I'm mixed up. Was it 2005 where he just missed his first start and then showed up?

Yes. He was slated to start on the 12th, the first day they said they'd need a 5th starter, but that was rained out and he pitched on the 13th. Then started for two months until he got nailed by the ball.

Thanks, Gooney. I forgot about the 2 months he was out at the beginning of 2004.

Man, this is depressing.

Similar yes, but Izturis will probably put up 50-80 points better in OPS than Neifi does next year, if not more.

PECOTA projected Izturis to have an 18 point advantage in OPS next year.

I'll bet you $20 that Izturis doesn't have an 80 point advantage in OPS next year.

If I was in the habit of betting over the Net, I would think about it. 80 points is my high end reasonable projection though. 50 points I would be much more sure about (that isn't projecting great things for Izturis at all, as I bet Neifi stays under a .600 OPS next year)

Here's the thing: Izturis apparently has "perceived value", i.e., certain GMs and orgs see him as a good fielder and hitter for his position. Accordingly, is it so out of the relm of possibility that he will be moved this Winter? His contract isn't horrendous (unless you take the time to measure it againt his actual production, which we know many GMs will not do). He's not getting traded to Oakland anytime soon, but is it so crazy to think that teamslike Cinci (traded Lopez and have no one else that I am aware of, sans Clayton), KC (Berrora = bust), or even Minnesota (he'd get a lot more hits on turf and has good range) would want him?

The perceived value was only there because Hendry was dumb enough to fall for it. If Cincy wanted him, why wouldn't they have made a move for him last year while they were in the thick of a playoff hunt?

The Dodgers were trying to dump Izturis all of last year. They had zero need for him. None whatsoever. No one came a calling. Except Hendry.

If all the Dodgers had to offer was another run of the mill, light hitting, all fielding utility infielder, he should have just let Maddux finish out the year as a Cub.

The list is getting pretty extensive lately. Damian Jackson, Rey Ordonez, Neifi Perez, Freddy Bynum, Ronny Cedeno, Tony Womack, Alex Gonzalez, Ramon Martinez, Jose Hernandez, Augie Ojeda, Jose Macias, Jerry Hairston Jr., Enrique Wilson and now Cesar Izturis.

14 craptacular utility infielders just since 2003. Hit us all in the head with a hammer again, Hendry. We enjoy it immensely.

Bynum scored 23 points for the Lakers yesterday, maybe he just chose the wrong sport?
