This team is pretty fun to watch. I read they were likely going to sign Peter Bondra (38 now I think) soon, not sure how that well that would work, maybe we'll see.

The Hawks got outplayed tonight for the most part and were terrible defensively, so it was a great thing for them to come back, tie it up and at least get a point out of it. Overcoming a 2 goal deficit late in the 3rd against a defensive-minded team like Minnesota is a very hard thing to do, yet they were able to accomplish it. I highly, highly doubt that would've happened under Yawney's system. It really sucked to see Boucher give up that very crappy goal in OT. We didn't play well in OT, but that goal came with only 1:40 to go, so we could have at least had it go to a SO and with probably Havlat, Ruutu and perhaps Hamilton shooting, we've got a decent chance. It's frustrating to see us lose three in a row in SO/OT situations. We're playing well since Savard came in but we gotta start putting more W's together.

Don't forget Boucher also coughed up the pass which led to Demitra's goal. I didn't catch the whole game, but they were making it sound like he played well. He let in at least 2 crummy goals in my book (I didn't see the others), but maybe he made some real strong saves. Minnesota also hit at least 4-5 posts/crossbars.

Yeah, Eddie O actually counted 7 posts that the Wild hit, it was pretty ridiculous. Could have easily been a bad blowout if not for that. Boucher played great IMO when Khabby was out, but he's obviously gotten very rusty, it had been 2 weeks since he had played before tonight, and it definitely showed. He needs to stop bothering to play the puck though, he's awful at it.

Apparently, it was reported on Hockey Night In Canada that Bondra wants a 2 year deal, and Tallon only wants to give him 1. Gotta agree with Dale there, the guy is 38 years old. I wouldn't mind giving him a one year deal, he did have 21 goals in 60 games last year, at the least he could be a decent 2nd liner.

OK, Hawks have indeed signed Bondra today:

General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have signed forward Peter Bondra. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

“He’s a proven goal scorer,” said General Manager Dale Tallon. “He’s a tremendously fit athlete who will add more speed and skill to our lineup. He will help our power play and his experience will greatly help our younger players.”

I've been reading reports that it's just this year, $500k. That's a great deal, get a guy who might be able to put some pucks in the net without giving up any players.

Agreed, didn't cost the Hawks much at all, and it's not unreasonable to think he can put up around 15 goals for us this season. He's also known as one of the better power play scorers in the game, which we definitely need help with.

Hawks are up 2-1 right now in the 2nd period over Edmonton.

Hawks win 4-1. That's 11 points in 7 games (14 points possible) under Savard. Havlat is such a stud. Hopefully Bondra can help the power play and this team can contend for one of the final playoff spots.

Don't look now, but if they win Tuesday night in St. Louis the Hawks will be .500

4 points out of 8th. This season just got very interesting with the return of Havlat and the signing of Bondra.

I'd be getting back into the Hawks right now if they played home games on TV. Unfortunately because they don't it will take me and a lot of other Chicagoans a long time before they get back into things.

Don't worry, I'm either going to get rich and buy the Hawks or work in their marketing department and find some way to get the games on TV. It is one of my life goals, seriously.

Apparently, Bill Clement reported on his NHL XM Radio show that Vandermeer is going to be dealt to the Flyers for Kyle Calder. Just a rumor at this point, not sure of it's credibility yet.

Interesting move if it's true.

Calder's had an awful year so far. Only 3 goals and a +- of -17. That's abysmal. I'd like to keep Vandermeer, but I'd trade Cullimore in a heartbeat for Calder.
