Ryno needs to be the Cubs Manager. Not sure how he would do, but at least there would be accountability. I'm not sure, but I don't think he has any desire to be a manager. :(

While I like Ryne as a player, and agree with him that there's a right way to play the game, I've read enough of his antiquidated ideas in his yahoo articles to know I don't want him making decisions for the Cubs.

I think that I would grow to loathe Sandberg as manager of the Cubs. Since he was always my favorite player, I'd rather that not happen.

i'm not sure what "playing the game right" means.

my idea of playing the game right probably conflicts with his. "right", in the way we use it, is absolutist--but at the same time relative. it's some sort of paradox i'd say.

personally, i'd take a team full of mannys and beat the hell out of his team full of ecksteins.

Ryno's "right way" was playing without ego.

but how are the white sox an example of that? i don't get it, do you see what i mean?

It's nice that Ryno knows and is pointing out that there's something wrong with the Cubs and how they're run.

Unfortunately, I am pretty sure that he has no idea what that 'something' is.

My guess, and it's only a guess, as to what "playing the game the right way" means is working to improve on mistakes instead of continually missing cutoff man after cutoff man. It also means not taking steroids, understand and execute the fundamentals, not continually getting picked off of base, etc.

The White Sox reference? :?

I agree. I disagree with the not getting picked off thing though. What if your agent calls when you're on first with a huge endorsement deal? I'd take the call because you have to feed your family.

and playing to win as a team and not for individual stats. too bad dusty doesn't think this way or they might be alot closer to .500 this year.

Come on now. The Cubhouse Country Club just wouldn't be the same now would it?

nope it wouldn't. cant make the players uncomfortable or they might get upset. they dont earn enough $ to have to put up with that.

I like the way Baker disciplines the vets. He scolds the rookies after they make a mistake the vet has made numerious times and hopes the vet hears it from his jacuzzi. That my friend is tough love.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Ryno himself toss his hat into the ring prior to the Dusty hiring? I seem to remember him making the rounds on the sports radio shows and doing a bit of campaigning.

Would he or would he not be a good manager - I don't know. But I agree with Vance. This organization is so screwed up I'd hate for Ryne to have some of that stink rub off on him and for my opinion of him lowered in any way.
