Crawford seems to be on the White Sox radar as well; difficult to see at this stage whether Gregor knows Kenny is looking at Carl, or whether Gregor thinks Kenny should look at Carl.

We do know that over the last few years, Kenny has been much bolder than Hendry when it comes to making trades.

The White Sox should be focusing on Juan Pierre instead.

Seconded.

They are, according to ESPN Insider. They are also interested in Blanco.

Just a guess, but that Insider article is probably just quoting the Chicago papers' speculation. It's a pet peeve of mine when Insider gets "according to" status, just because I remember when it first came out it was simply linking to the papers that I already read. And I'm pretty sure it's the same thing now.

Every trade is different. A team's leverage/need to trade or acquire a certain type of player can change from moment to moment. For instance, lets say Delmon Young slips on a banana peel and breaks his leg. All of a sudden, its going to take a lot more to get Carl Crawford than the day before. So looking at what a team was willing to give up for Pierre and expecting the conditions to be exactly the same as they were then for this trade now doesn't really work.

Yes, Crawford is good and young. So was Aramis Ramirez. He was acquired for next to nothing. Now the D-Rays GM Chuck LaMar has a much tougher trading reputation than does Pirates GM Dave Littlefield, but the fact remains that Crawford is about to get expensive (for the D-Rays that is) and there are several young, talented, league minimum OFers pushing him out of town.

Nonetheless, the DRays are going to hold what the Cubs eventually paid for Pierre against them. And the difference between ARam and Carl Crawford, is that Carl wasn't living on one yr of good production, like ARam was at the time of the trade. In fact, you can say Crawford has been more productive at the 5 yr mark of his major league career, then ARam at 5 yrs.<----In fact, I know Crawford has been more productive in his first 5 yrs then ARam. So the trade value for ARam was quite abit lower than what Crawford's is expected to be. So you can't compare Crawford's situation to ARam's "Pittsburgh days" situation. It's apples and oranges.

And btw, Chuck Lemar ain't the DRays GM anymore, it's Andrew Friedman. So, we don't know the trading habits of Friedman. And while the DRays do have some valuable young OFers, coming up, that doesn't mean they have to take less value for Crawford. His power/speed combo is outstanding, and once he learns to be more patience, his OBP will increase and he will become an even bigger threat. The DRays are not going to trade Crawford just because he is "getting expensive." They are going to wait it out, and get their kind of deal, if not, he makes for an ATTRACTIVE deadline target in 07.
