alot of dempsters struggles have to due with his lack of use imo. when he doesnt get regular work he loses his control and gets rocked. i think he can bounce back in 07 if the cubs have a manager who knows how to use a bullpen. i also look for marmol to be switched to closer in the minors next year.

this sort of " hindsight logic" is worthless. if a player or team does well despite what people thought they were supposed to do, the nay sayer's jump on the band wagon. if the player or team fails, they are the first to point fingers that they were right and everyone else was wrong. everyone is very disapointed at this season but with the year dempster had saving games in 2005, what were the cubs supposed to do? if they dont sign him and he goes elsewhere & saves 40 games, the cubs would have been idiots for letting him go. who else was going to close this year? novoa? howry? this team was let down by the manager & coaching staff first & foremost imo.

how many in a row did he save? he has been bad now but so has everyone...at least it's happening when it does not matter. i would have to say that he was a better option than anyone in the pen-at the start of the year.....the hawkins experiment should tell you not to use howry or eyre in that role fulltime. wuertz certainly was not an option at the start and he has had moments also

hendry screws up alot.although i have never given him credit for dempster being a decent closer because he only got a shot after every other pitcher on the staff failed. i really thought they had this role set obviosly that needs to be reevaluted now. i also feel that he has sat around far too many times to be effective! i mean how many managers let there closer go 10 days without throwing?

Yeah, I don't know what part of his 33 out of 35 Save Op, 3.13 ERA and 49bb to 89so, EVER told us that he was the least bit good at all. :roll:

I'm just glad we had a defensive catcher like Henry Blanco back there. Imagine how many WPs there woulda been that inning with that hack Barrett back there.
