I've had games like that. Lots of effort and lots of just terrible finishing.

I guess just fatigue coupled with "one of those nights"

My positive spin on Dempsey's play was his ability to be in position to have numerous opportunities to score. Obviously, the finishing was pathetic but at least he found some open space with the ball at his feet.

Yes, this. 5 days rest and he'll be fine, and probably come out with a chip on his shoulder Sunday.

Let's acknowledge a couple of things.

First, an average night of finishing and we'd have around a 4-0 win which would be perfectly acceptable. This is true.

Second, none of us here are stupid, reactionary idiots who want to fire Bob after every non-domination.

But, how many times have we seen the lethargic performances starting games? How many times have we heard quotes like this: "“It was an OK performance: a little bit lifeless, but that's kind of the way it's been so far … Maybe the Panama game [a 2-1 loss] knocked some stuffing out of us.”

-Tim Howard

I know what you're saying, Tim. It's probably true, but come on, man. Screw your stuffing. You're supposed to be the big badasses on the CONCACAF block. Even if you have a bad loss, you come out and punk the next team that dares step on the field with you. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR LETHARGY.

Bob is clearly not a motivator. Tactically, he's alright. He has some brilliant looking games and some bad games and people want to give him credit when they're good and kill him when they're bad. You know it means when someone is either brilliant or baffled tactically? It means he's not a good tactician.

I'm at my limit, I'm officially in the "Bob Bradley is not our best option" camp. No matter what. Even if they go on a lucky run, beat Spain and almost win the Confederation's Cup after completely [expletive] their pants in the first two games and needing an inconceivable amount of luck to even make it out of the group. Oh wait, that already happened, and he's been living on it for years.

Fact is, Landon isn't a talisman, Clint isn't vocal and Carlos is a laid back dude. I don't know who in the pool that should start is also a motivator, but we need to find it. This "lethargy" is unacceptable.

Wow, finally caught up and those blown chances by Dempsey were just staggering.

Supporters of Bob Bradley's U.S. team don't have to worry about a possible Chandler defection -- a spokesman of the German Football Association told SI.com that Chandler, who has dual-citizenship, is no longer under consideration for a call-up. (FIFA regulations allow players to switch sides before their first competitive match). "He was being looked at," the spokesman said, "but after his debut for the U.S .and his statements about identifying with America we don't see him playing for Germany in the future." It's Joachim Löw's loss, really. After Philipp Lahm's switch to the left-back position, Germany is crying out for a decent right back.

So Donovan is dropped to the bench today (probably because of the cross country flight, but still, wow), Adu makes the bench and Sacha and Bedoya start on the wings with Clint and Jozy up front. I like that Bradley sees that this team needs offensive creativity off the bench and is giving Freddy a shot at that role if needed.

I'll say this much: if we lose, not only will Bradley be fired, but Landon (and Clint if he plays poorly) are going to get crucified for the whole sisters' wedding nonsense.

FWIW, Wahl retweeted news that Dempsey got to DC at 2 AM, Landon at 7 AM.

Aaaaaaand the greatest Gold Cup ever continues with Jozy's hamstring exploding.

[expletive]. I was getting ready to ask what happened since I can't find the game anywhere in Spokane.

That didn't look good for Jozy.

Oh, I guess we're going to see tons of missed opportunities again.

The way Jamaica is bunkering it's impressive we've had as many chances...

I'd say that this team on the field had played really well. Just need to finish one of them and we'll score some more
