What should the pitching rules be for next year?

I voted something else - 5 starters per day (max), unlimited pitchers per week but limited to a set innings per year.

The set innings per year would be really hard to enforce.

Something isnt right about having 11 SP and 2 SP on the DL. Id rather see a more realistic pitching setup, Ive never seen a league that allowed that many pitchers to make all thier starts in a 1 week period. Its not right and it screws up the balance in the league. It creates situations where people just horde all the pitching. THere is a better competitive balance when the pitching is spread more evenly throughout the league. Just my thoughts.

I don't think it's right or wrong...it's merely playing with the rules. Anyone can do it; unfortunately, not everyone is active and can't or won't do the work to pick up the right pitchers or trade for them. I voted to limit the number of innings per year but Tim says that it can't be done with CBS Sportsline and keeping track of it would be difficult.

Yes it is playing by the rules and thats why the rules need to be changed. It doesnt matter how much time or effort you put into it, there is only so much good pitching to be had and when 1 or 2 guys horde it all your SOL.

Well I'm apparently the only one that voted for option 2. Yay me for originality.

To me, having a limited number of starts for week would make it a more fair competition. It's more about how well your guys pitched, than how many guys you could push out there.

I think Roady is correct, though, that there's an even greater element of strategy if you limit innings over the course of a season. In a league I'm in, the limit is 1300 and once you get near there, you're always constantly aware of who you're starting and how close you are to the finish. It makes you pace yourself more and being more selective of pitching matchups. It would probably even out some of the pitching too, because some teams that have marginal pitchers on THEIR rosters could be every start guys on another based on depth. I feel like I have a lot of depth (very young, too) and I've worked hard to earn it, but I think it would even the playing field out well to limit innings to force hands to make deals that would even out the pitching.

I agree that it would be a nice addition, I just don't think it is realistic in a points league on CBS that doesn't allow you to set that as a parameter. It would have to be self-policed and there are too many people that give up towards the end of a year.

Though that may be the real problem. :(

Since my option is not doable, then I would like to change my vote to option #2...

I strongly believe that hording is part of the strategy..ie the Yankess and Red Sox hording talent because they can afford them.

I have been fortunate to be able to spin off some players for pitching and pick up younger pitchers that have performed. Now I am at a point that I don't want to release them because they have performed well and it suits the structure of the league. Once Harden comes off the DL, I have to let go of a strong position player that have served me well this year (if he ever comes off DL).

Edit: also because we have a limited amount of roster spots hording can weakened certain areas as well so I don't think it deters from the integrity of the league.
