I doubt you could find a single nonwhite athlete who hasn't had the same experience. That's just the way the world is.

 

 

Let me tell you about the time I was called a "ni***r honkey" by a black player after I blocked off the base on a pickoff. If I may be allowed to restate your post; I doubt you could find a single person who hasn't had a simular experience at some point. That is the way the world is.

people are stupid. i think signing jones was a mistake, i think it blocks pie and murton. i think it was 2 much for 2 long. i think it was a chain reaction for missing out on furcal BUT i certainly do not blame jones. he did make hendry sign him and he certainly has played better than most expected. we should be sending hendry the hate mail!

This story by the Trib really upsets me. Hate Jacque Jones for signing a ridiculous 3 year contract. Yell at him for whatever. But don't yell at him for being black. This is so pathetic that we claim to have come so far as a society in race relations, when events like this are still going on. I just don't get it. I mean really there are an infinite number of better reasons to rip on a player (and trust me, I've exhausted most of them), but race? Agh, I hate people sometimes. I hope Jacque realizes that this is (hopefully) only a small , uneducated and ignorant portion of the population, and not the majority.

I hate Hawkins, Baker and Jones because they suck at their jobs. I've hated plenty of white Cubs as well.

In all seriousness, this relates to the racism piece ESPN ran in the couple weeks before the World Cup regarding how prevalent and widespread racism is in Europe. It's unfortunate that these types of things happen but they do and I don't think anything will ever change. There will always be people so set in their views that problems will occur. And this goes beyond just racism. In virtually every aspect of society there will be extremists and they will cause major problems.

 

I feel sorry for Jacque that he has to go through this, as well as anybody in the past that has gone through this as well. I'm okay with criticizing people for a poor job performance but when you go into issues like race/politics/religion you are crossing the line. Unfortunately people feel that they can cross this line whenever they want to and being inebriated isn't an excuse.

 

I can only hope that stadiums across the world continue (as it sounds like this is what is happening) to kick people out and ban them from stadiums for racist comments. It's a step in the right direction.

Sports racism in the US exists, but it should be recognized that the US is actually in much better shape in this respect than most other countries worldwide, where it's quite a bit more prevalent and flat-out nasty.

 

That said, I hope Jones gets to hear the other side and doesn't get jaded by select fools.
