I'm not sure if this was pure speculation on the part of Turner South broadcasters, but they talked last night about Giles being *possibly* headed to San Diego in exchange for some bullpen help, which doesn't make a ton of sense to me on the Padres end.

Today's AJC printed an interview in which Giles says that he expects to be moved. Betemit will become the every day 2B.

If I get a link or more info, I will post it.

On ESPN's rumor line deal during SportsCenter, they thought that Betemit would be a Yankee before the trade deadline so moving Giles wouldn't make much sense.

When it comes to trade rumors,it seems like any good player is going to the Yankees.

I doubt it. The rumor supposedly is Betemit for Proctor, which would be a friggin' ripoff the Braves, considering they could easily do a Giles for Linebrink deal. My guess is...Giles is gone to SD, Betemit starts at 2B, and the Yankees will go and by the whole Japanese Professional Baseball Leauge to use a trade bait.

The other question I have is why do the Padres want Giles? Barfield is younger, cheaper, and a better overall player than Giles. Do they plan on moving one of them to third?

C'mon Jimmy get your butt in on this one!

Braves: Linebrink

Cubs: Giles

Padres: Maddux + Aardsma/Ohman/Wuertz

Marcus Giles' .707 OPS is rather unimpressive. And considering he's arb. eligible, and will probably make somewhere in the $4.5-5.5M range in 2007, I say pass big time.

I agree, I'm not too keen on Giles. Too bad a guy like Todd Walker isn't available.

Todd Walker and Marcus Giles aren't even in the same class.

Giles is a 5-7 win player (actually 9 wins in 2003).

Walker is a 2-3 win player.

Don't let his injury-deflated stats for 2006 fool you. Giles would be a terrific option at the top of the order, as well as at 2B.

I wasn't comparing the two. Giles is not a difference maker. If anything, he's a modest upgrade over Walker. Walker's OBP makes him a very solid player for the price. There's no need to ship somebody off to get him, and his pricetag is a lot lower.
