The trade deadline is coming up on July 31st. Make sure you're familiar with the keeper rules when considering your roster for next year. Also, if there are any suggestions for rules changes for next year (SB's worth more, C defense points worth less have been two), please make them now.

BTW - if anyone is interested in one of my young OF's, I'd love to add an exempt pitcher in return. I've got Bay, Sizemore, Rios, Hermida, Ethier & Quentin as points-exempt keepers. Given that I'm in the playoffs, it would be hard to deal the first three. But the last three (plus Sheffield, who is going to be darned near points free) are available for trade.

Tim, can you please clarify how the points exempt works one more time? I read it and still can't grasp how many guys you can keep, especially w/ regards to how many players have ot be kept on minor league rosters from year to year. thanks for the clarification!

1) You can keep up to 10 guys on your minor league roster, but they still have to be rookie-eligible. For hitters, this means less than 130 (or is it 135?) PA's. If someone remembers the qualification for pitchers, please post it. For our purposes, I'm ignoring the service time qualifications.

2) For players that cannot be kept on the minor league roster because they will not be rookie-eligible the following year, there is a rough equivalent to arbitration eligibility. Players get three years of major league service before their points count against the 1800 point keeper limit.

3) there is no offseason DL

4) You can keep as many players in the offseason as you have roster spots available, as long as the sum of those players' points do not exceed 1800 points.

I believe the number of innings for rookie-eligibility is 90 innings.
