Actually, the fact that they helped shut down Napster is one check in their column for me. Takes a lot of guts to attack your consumers, even if your consumers are stealing your product.

Well, I suppose everything did work out for the best. I now use a bit torrent client, and instead of downloading individual MP3s, I get full albums.

Hey, I'm a poor college kid, so I wouldn't be buying the albums anyway. Plus, I support the bands live. I just refuse to support the RIAA.

most cliched "cause" in the past 5 years

To be honest I've never really understood it.

it's a trendy way of rationalizing music piracy. the RIAA never actually did anything to these people besides practice capitalism and attempt to turn a profit for their shareholders

Right. It's easier to say "I'm sticking it to the man" than "I'm stealing."

I hate Lars.

He is a jerk.....but he kicks ass on the 'skins'.

Lars Ulrich is not a good drummer.

and the Clash is not a good band, so there you have it.

plus good drummer or not, lars co-wrote most of their best music

I wasn't questioning his songwriting ability, nor did I say anything about the Clash. I was correcting cubweiser03, because Lars is a second rate drummer at best.

what makes him second rate?

His one dynamic level - LOUD. The man plays with zero dynamic contrast, and I don't think he's ever played an unaccented note in his life. Back in the day he had fast feet, but that was it. Any idiot can crank out a ton a double-bass notes, but that doesn't make them a good drummer.

Well this is what most metal fans look for in a drummer. I cant tell you if Lars is the most technical drummer but for metal he is very good. Not many drummers back in the days were smacking the double bass like he was and that was very cool.

He's no John Bonham but he aint a douchebag either. I dont know if Metallica does it anymore but when i saw them in the late 80's both Lars and James had a drum off which was pretty cool. James wasnt to bad himself, or is it he sucked less

compared to the drumming I hear on Headbanger's Ball, Lars is head and shoulders above most current metal knuckledheads. Seems if you can play double bass as fast as possible, you too can have a video on MTV2

I dont keep up with metal that much more but from what i hear a lot if it sounds like death metal without the death and everything black part.

I think Lars is actually way behind the times as far as drummers go. Anymore drummers are more important to a metal band than guitars or vocals - most of the best newer generation metal - Lamb of God, Shadow's Fall, Mastodon - feature drummers that literally play circles around Lars, or really most any drummer from the 80's metal scene. I would guess the current average metal drummer can play old Metallica in their sleep.

Haha... I'm "trendy." What a joke.

it is indeed a joke

I shall continue stealing music, you shall continue rolling your eyes. Such is life.

I'd post a song or two on the board that I like from bands that I'm currently listening to, but I'd hate to be accused of facilitating someone's larceny, so I shan't.

and i'm sure if you could steal gas anonymously on the internet you would to. I doubt you have the balls to go steal a CD from Best Buy

The CDs I want aren't at Best Buy.

it means he's going to justify stealing by saying that he only downloads imports or live stuff or rarities or whatever. First the "I hate the RIAA" excuse then another. Stealing is stealing

They're not imports. I just can't find the CDs I want at Best Buy. Something tells me they won't have The Rosebuds or Girl Talk (although, to be fair, I haven't shopped at Best Buy for CDs in a while, so they might have them). If I were to buy a CD, I'd go to an independent record store.

But you see, when I steal music, no phyiscal property is taken. If I were to steal a CD from Best Buy, the store would be out money because it has to pay for the CD. When I download an album, no money is lost, because if I couldn't hear this music for free, I certainly wouldn't be paying for it. The vast majority of music I download is stuff that I wouldn't pay for. They're bands I've never heard of, and I'm curious to check them out. Like I said, if I dig their music, I'm more than happy to see them live.

I lose no sleep over my stealing music.

I'm guessing I shouldn't hold my breath waiting for a Premium subscription.
