Ok...need some help again. Re: Tennesee Smokies

Recommended Posts

I'm probably going to see Mississippi play the Smokies this coming week. Who on that team is a good prospect if any. I looked on the roster and didn't really recognize any of the names.

Miguel Montero is a decent catching prospect and Mark Reynolds is a pretty intriguing player. He had 23 HR and 77 RBI with the High A Ball team before being promoted.

The Smokies are affiliated with the Diamondbacks. They have a few guys who seem like they could amount to something. I don't think they have any prospects who could blossom into a Stephen Drew or Carlos Quentin, but you never know.

The best prospect on the team is probably C Miguel Montero, who's been one of the better catching prospects in the minors this year. C Phil Avlas has also put up some decent numbers. SS Mark Reynolds was recently promoted and he was one of the best players in High A this season.

On the pitching side of things, Garrett Mock and Greg Smith are two of the better guys they have on their staff. Mock has good stuff, but gets a bit wild on occasion. Smith had a great performance down in High A, as well, although his stuff isn't overpowering from what I've heard.

Yeah I forgot Mock was still down there. Micah Owings was also with the Smokies but got promoted about a month or so ago. Basically nothing incredible although Mark Reynolds might turn into a pretty good prospect.

I live about 20 minutes from Smokies Park, and have been to see the Smokies several times so far this season. Quite frankly, they don't have much. Of course, I said the same thing last season when they had this scrappy utility infielder named Dan Uggla.

AA is just not where the DBacks have their prospects right now. As has been stated, Montero looks like a decent catcher, but I wouldn't go much above that. There are some arms, but nothing spectacular. Other than that, I see a roster full of career minor leaguers. Honestly, there isn't a player on the Smokies roster that I would like to see the Cubs deal for.

Thanks for the honest assessment. I guess I can hope that between now and Tuesday, Gonzalez gets promoted.
