Last night I watched the '71 World Series on TV. They show it here a lot in San Juan because it was Clemente's last WS. Some things that struck me:

1. Curt Gowdy was a great announcer. I really miss listening to him during the '70s.

2. Willie Stargell was relatively skinny at that stage of his career, but enormously strong.

3. Gene Clines playing center for the Pirates? I never realized he'd played center.

4. Clemente hit something like .414 in that series.

5. Steve Blass had a violent squirrely windup and whicked movement on his pitches. Maybe that led to his later case of the yips, aka Rick Ankiel disease.

6. That Pirates team was darn good. They just looked like such an impressive unit they way they played the game.

7. Daytime WS games? I miss those.

8. Just about all the men in the boxseats it seemed wore coat and tie.

All in all it made me realize how much more I liked baseball in those days than today.

You got it backwards; Ankiel suffered from Steve Blass Disease. The way you put it is basically the same thing as saying Tommy John underwent Kerry Wood Surgery. :D

The way Kerry is going he's gonna get a few injuries and ailments named after himself.
