After that first inning, Marmol seems a little timid right now. I know he got shelled pretty good, but he needs to gain some confidence in that incredible stuff of his.

I don't think they've secured a spot either, but they've shown me enough that I think they'd do pretty good in a competition for slots during spring training. Unless we go out and spend some serious money on a few starters, they're already got the upper hand on anything else we've got.

I agree, but look at the mess we've got. That's not saying much. IMO any serious retooling of this club for '07 would include bringing in some veteran help for two of the 3 holes in our rotation (assuming Maddux is gone).

Corey Patterson just rips a single to RF. Next pitch he steals 2nd, ball hits him in the helmet and goes to the outfield. Run scores and CP takes 3rd. Wasnt even close play at second on his SB. Edited by cubweiser03

Fred, your little stat line has the Cubs scoring 0 in the second, not a big deal but i thought id mention it

Sorry, guys, I'm trying to get used to a new template. It'll take me a while.

One thing I've noticed with Marmol so far is that he's doing well when he comes over the top or from that high 3/4 arm slot, but when he tries to get a little extra on it and drops down to a sidearm motion, the ball really rises in the zone.

For being a former hitter, Marmol seems to have no interest in making contact at the plate anymore. All of the balls he swung at were in the LH batter's box.

He's anxious to get his first hit.
