This is the rumor I've been holding onto for quite a while now (since Feb) to protect a good friend of mine who told me about it then. Here's confirmation of it

While I and several other East Tenneseee folks would be pleased to see the AA Cubs head east, I know there's quite a few folks on here in the West Tennessee area.

I would love for the Jaxx to remain the AA affiliate of the Cubs. However, if the Jaxx cannot remain the affiliate of the Cubs, the next best thing for me personally would be to keep them in the Southern League.

West Tenn's attendance is in decline. The Jaxx were next-to-last in 2004, last in 2005 and at the bottom again this season despite a quality product. West Tenn finished a game behind Northern Division first-half champion Chattanooga.

The Cubs don't benefit financially from attendance, but major league teams prefer their prospects play in front of large crowds. It's part of the development process.

Tennessee has experienced a dropoff at the gate in 2005 as well, but that will be reversed this year. Attendance at Smokies Park is up and Tennessee's average of 3,619 more than doubles West Tenn's 1,494.

I just assumed the attendance was good/stable for the DJaxx. But when you look at the difference in attendance numbers between W.Tenn and E. Tenn coupled with the tone of the article it just makes it seem as if this move is inevitable.

With all due respect to those who want the cubs to stay in Jackson, this would be to my advantage. I live only an hour away in Kingspot, TN.
