Will someone please explain why Niefi and Fat Glendon are still on the team??

Sure, it's because Hendry is the GM and Baker is the manager.

UNACCEPTABLE! You fail!! Seriously, please Jim, just eat the contracts. Who cares about 5M in 2007?? They're gonna get their dough either way, so why not clear 2 roster spots??

Hasnt Arrdsma been doing real good lately?? I wouldnt trade that guy, the way he throws hed be a awsome closer if he can control his pitches, he has great potential and we sene flashes of it

Who said anything about trading Aardsma?

The Cubs inquired about first baseman Ryan Shealy, Colorado Rockies, presently at Colorado Springs and offered Aardsma in the deal.

So you're whole basis here is that if

A)our ctacher gets hurt

B) our firstbaseman(Nevin) gets hurt.

C)Mabry is not actually the third catcher(He is!)

Then yes, if all three of those go down in one game, not having a 4th catcher on the team was a bad idea.

By the way, how did the games with both Nevin and Blanco turn out?

(I am leaving work, so I won't be able to respond for a while)

If Barrett went on the DL, should we have just sat still with no catcher to replace him? He'll end up missing a total of 13 games with a 1B/DH as our backup catcher (who also happens to be playing every day). Nevin and Mabry are not catchers, Blanco barely is. Put the emergency catcher label on Aramis. Put the emergency CF label on Maddux. None of the above make sense. Putting someone who cannot fill the position in the position is stupid. Plain and simple. It is yet another example of horrible roster management, and regardless of how the team is performing, it should not be ignored. Not to mention that we have 12 pitchers and the bench is short.

Funny how you call Blanco barely a catcher and then use the word stupid to describe putting Mabry and Nevin at catcher in an EMERGENCY. Nevin was drafted as a catcher. Mabry was used by the Cards in that role and makes sure to take some time in spring training to work on it. Did I mention Barrett was a third baseman. Also again Blanco barely a catcher? As much as NSSB mob will like you belive that Blanco sucks he's regarded as fine battery mate and has a cannon arm by many around baseball.

Where did that come from?

I think most people here know that he is an excellent defensive catcher. His offense is a different story even though he has had a hot streak at the plate recently.

Blanco is far from being barely a catcher. If he was barely a catcher, he would most certainly not be in the majors...because it took a huge hot streak just to get his average above .200, which goes to show that his hitting isn't what is keeping him around

I know they arent trading him, Im just asking why the sent him abck to triple A, i thought he was doing pretty good and I hope they dont ever trade him or anything ebcause Ithink hes going to be huge in the future

A couple reasons:

A) Williamson needs to come up in order to show he's healthy and trade him, for that they needed space.

B) Aardsma hasn't been pitching all that well. In June he has a 4+ ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 5.91 k/9, 7/4 K/BB ratio. He's pretty much interchangable with Novoa.

But isn't Marmol still in the pen? If you insist on having 800 pitchers, you don't really need a long relief man. Send him down so he can get regular starts.

Womack was optioned to AAA. I guess he had an option left.

According to Dusty, he had some clause in his contract to allow him to be optioned rather than cut.

"He had a special clause in his contract where he could go down without being off the roster and he's available to come back," manager Dusty Baker said.

And Blanco has a stiff neck - presumably from watching all of his homers since he took over the regular starting gig.

The Cubs needed to call up Soto, who played one game last season, from Iowa because Henry Blanco's neck has been stiff the past two days, Baker said.

Per Offman on 670. I'm assuming that Womack is being DFA'd because he probably can't be sent down without being DFA'd. Soto in the starting lineup tonight?

Otherwise known as shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic! Sorry, could not help myself.

Oh...I thought Guzman was taking his spot in the rotation?

Well, if either Guzman or Marmol is sitting in the bullpen as a "long relief" man, it's a waste. In fact, the entire concept of long relief is a waste if you have a 12 man staff, IMO.

But what if Blanco (at catcher), Mabry (at 1B) and Nevin (in LF) lose a ball in the lights and collide in front of the Cubs dugout, the impact of which sends them all into the clubhouse and directly into Michael Barrett? What then, huh?

You are trying to introduce logic into the decision making of the Cubs? :D

He must be living in a parallel universe. Everybody in this universe knows that "logic" and "Cubs decision making" is a contradiction in terms.
