He's only started 2 of the last 10 games after starting almost every day in his first 2 weeks. Has anyone heard anything about the Cubs' plans for Womack? To me it looks like he might be on the way out. With Nevin and Bynum playing more I don't see any place for Womack.

I would much rather see Neifi gone than get rid of Womack. Neifi adds nothing to the team and is severly overused.

Can Womack still play SS? If so, release Neifi instead, please. Yeah, I know, not gonna happen. Besides, there isn't really much difference.

Since going 6-11 in his first 2 games Womack is 7-38(.184 BA). Hendry is a dork but I'm sure he hasn't forgotten that Womack is a scrap heap player that 29 teams didn't want. Maybe it's wishful thinking but I'm guessing Womack might not be around much longer.

Especially with DLee possibly looking to come back to the roster this weekend.

I think this is a very strong possibility.

I think Murt will get sent down, or Mabry will be released/traded. The later seems more likely.

I really hope you're wrong. If we keep our backup, backup 2B rather than Murton, I may absolutely lose it. I'd love for Mabry to be gone, but I can't see the Cubs keeping Womack over him.

Nope. Murton will get sent down. LOCK.

And that's pathetic.

While that wouldn't really shock me I don't see that happening. The Cubs have struggled mightily against LH pitching. If they send Murton down they have to send Bynum, Womack or Mabry out there against LH pitching.

Murton is safe until Pagan returns. Once he's back the Cubs will either demote Murton or try to send Bynum through waivers. Would anyone claim Bynum?

Bruce makes me chuckle:

When Lee comes back, somebody will have to go. If the Cubs wanted to be bold, they could cut a veteran, such as John Mabry, Neifi Perez or Tony Womack. They also could sent Matt Murton to Class AAA Iowa, or somebody could “come down” with an injury.

Seriously though, I don't dare hope that they would release Neifi.

I read somewhere recently (maybe here; my brain don't work so good no more) that Dusty was playing Bynum in Murton's place so much lately because they wanted to see if he was worth keeping once Pagan comes back. My sense? No, he ain't. They're the same player. Bynum's toast.

I think you have to keep Neifi and hope for a few weeks of Neifury so he can be traded. Eating the whole $5 million without giving him another chance to get hot would be too painful. Womack, on the other hand, makes the MLB minimum, so he can be dumped at any time. He has no role anymore anyway. He's just taking up space.

He's been worse than normal, and he didn't have the fluke April to mask the overall horrible numbers. It's not likely they could part with the guy, but there has to be some thought of the idea. In the end the best we can hope for is a release of Womack. They are similarly worthless, but when it comes to releasing players, the Cubs will always choose the guy they don't have to pay to go away.

I still don't see them releasing him and eating that contract. It's just not in the Cubs character. One thing Hendry has always been very good at, is getting rid of albatross contracts, when he wants to. I expect he could trade Neifi to some team after a nice little Neifi offensive explosion...:P
