No, no, no. Dusty had Zambrano on a super secret pitch count against the Reds at the end of May to rest him. So they know he's getting overworked. Therefore, everything's okay. No need to keep him from throwing 125+ pitches in consecutive outings.

It doesn't sound like he's hurt. It just sounds like he has dead arm, which is completely understandable when he throws 200 pitches every time out. Hopefully he'll get a couple extra days off before his next start. Might as well go with a 6-man rotation for a while. It's not like it matters what we do at this point.

...in the rain with a 4 run lead.

Who cares, Z keep healthy long enough to get to the end of arby and get the hell out of here. No MLB player deserves to play for this team.

Have you seen how much rainfall they get back in Puerto Cabello? They practically drink the stuff.

This happens every year, what's the surprise? There is a lot of overreacting in this thread.

How dare you talk about my mother that way!

While I agree that Z's pitch count is alarming, it doesn't sound like he's "hurt" to me. I would think that "dead arm" or "heavy arm" or whatever you want to call it is pretty common at some point during the long season.

I do agree it would be advisable to get him an extra day or two of rest if possible.

I think we, as the fans of this organization, have earned the right to overreact by watching this team everyday in the hopes of a meaningless victory.

Oh - and Z has been one of the constants, not getting hurt. This does not happen everyyear, but it could be "his year"

Yes, actually it does happen every year. Heavy arm is common and Zambrano has experienced as much in the past seasons as well.

You have absolutely no more of a claim to the statement that "it's nothing, happens every year" than others have to the claim that "it's something".

Maybe it doesn't have to happen every year if Dusty had an ounce of common sense in dealing with his pitchers.

The point is - name one other team that has as many injuries to so many pitchers. It is not this bad and does not have to happen every year.

listen - if it looks like chicken and tastes like chicken...then...

And name the teams that abuse their pitchers as much as the Cubs. When you lead the world in pitcher abuse and suffer a series of pitching injuries, it doesn't take much to find a correlation.

It just points to Dusty, Hendry, etc. refusal to catch up with the rest of the baseball world. They still think pitchers shouldn't be on pitch counts because they weren't in the 60's. It's the same reason speed is at the top of the lineup, and the reason they only go after "toolsy" players. I think they enjoy giving a big middle finger to all the "new school" people.

Note: I hate the term "new school", but I coudn't figure out what else to say.

The symptoms he's experiencing could be a result of anything. Your reaction is as unjustified and unsupportable as any other reaction.

Regardless whether it's due to pitch counts or what not, every team has pitching injuries. Randy Johnson and Mike Mussina have been hurt in the last year with arm issues. Andy Pettitte was hurt much of last year and hasn't pitched worth a damn this year. Isringhausen and Cris Carpenter have been hurt. The league is replete with examples of hurt pitchers. Some on here are so ingrained with passion for the cubs and feel so bad that they are doing so poorly, that they think management is the worst thing since the Antichrist. Perhaps Dusty B. is the Antichrist, but pitching injuries aren't JUST because he leaves pitchers in a few pitches too long. Some people on here can't see the forest despite the trees. Relax, folks, Z is a tough guy...he'll be fine.

Pitching injuries don't just *happen*. When Mazzone was with Atlanta how many of their pitchers went on the DL every year.

You can ignore it but all of the injuries suffered by the Cubs pitchers aside from the elbow beaning are at the hands of Dusty and Larry.

The worst being Fox last year. Dusty fell into the old I'll use the hot guy out of the bullepn approach and bam Fox's arm falls off. Then there is Farnsworth. He ran Farns into the ground at the begining of each seasoon and at the end of the season Farns gets the "can't pitch in the big game" tag. When in reality he was finished by July b/c of his usage Pattern.

And I haven't even touched the starters yet.
