I never check out the forum of the single newspaper in St. Louis, because of it's small town status. I hear Cards fans bellowing that Bernie Miklasz(who?) is a professional columnist who is aggressive and outspoken. I would think that this writer would be consumed with the baseball season, Albert Pujols and many other issues. But I guess it's asking too much for a St. Louis columnist to address any hard issues. Thanks to an e-mail link I received this morning, I wonder what the hot topic is in St. Louis for it's reputedly professional journalist. HGH? Cardinal trades? No! It's a recipe. Just look at Cards fans lapping this stuff up.

What's next for Bernie-quilting tips? How about lipstick recommendations, Bernie? What a joke. No wonder Cards fans flock here.

Perhaps you can show us where Miklaz wrote this as the subject of one of his columns? That is what you are implying is it not since you didn't state otherwise and specifically mentioned columnist and journalist. Shall we assume that you never speak of anything other than your job 24/7?

However, I can't say I am surprised at this most recent transparent mischaracterization in light of your displays of your character over the last few months.

You're certainly more than welcome to disagree with opinions...I sure do...but lets try to keep it from being personal. Thanks.

I generally try to but I'm not sure you can classify what Cubbie Rich wrote as being an "opinion" At the very least there is a clear attempt at deception with a few facts generously used to portray a grossly different picture.

I don't even particularly care much for Bernie, that is an opinion. IMO CubbieRich's post and several previous post exceeded the line of mere opinion.

Bernie's horrible. He's his own hero.

I don't know if he's horrible or not, but he certainly seems to be in the Cardinals pocket. Was he out in front of the Big Yak mess? Did he write any critical column in 1998 or 1999 of McGwire using andro? If so, please show me where Bernie put his job on the line and asked Big Yak about 'using'? I'll wager he drank the Kool-Aid and was a stepford wife.

So, what silly reasons is he giving about not talking to the mighty Poolie today? Poolie is rehabbing 24 hours a day? Doesn't have his phone number? Poolie's legal handlers won't allow him to talk? I can't believe that any reputable columnist would stop at any of these excuses. This is what happens in a one paper town, there's no motivation to get to the bottom of a story. He might lose his pressbox buffet pass and we wouldn't want this to happen.

He's paid to do his column and his forum by the same employer. That makes both fair game.

I've never understood why Cards fans complain when Bernie questions ownership or writes a column that is critical of someone such as Albert Pujols. Bernie is far less harsh than most columnists. I read Bernie's columns and I read Jason Whitlock's columns. Whitlock is regularly very critical of the Royals and Chiefs. Bernie tends to be far less critical of the Saint Louis teams. Part of it is, no doubt, that the Cardinals are a far better team than the Royals. But part of itis, no doubt, that Bernie doesn't stir the pot the way some columnists do. And I don't mean to bash Bernie or Whitlock because both are very good columnists.

And for what it's worth, Bernie used his column to write about the World Cup. I have no problem with a columnist who wants to expand his horizons and write about something other than the local teams.

why does this thread exist

To prove Bernie is Amish. After all, they are the only ones who share recipes, aren't they?

That dog on the Bush's baked beans commercials is kind of a blabbermouth too...so he's either Amish, or a golden retriever.
