On my way home I heard Dusty on the radio saying something along the lines of:

"Neifi is starting at 2nd, hitting 2nd because Pettitte is a veteran and sometimes veterans like to mess with youngsters. Therefore Ronny is hitting 8th."

This would make me upset if the Cubs were playing for something. At this point I only watch for entertainment value, and at least there's a little humor when Neifi plays.

He's obviously doing it for shock value or something. No one is that dumb

THAT'S IT. I'm killing Dusty. I don't care if I go to jail for life. He's dead. Anyone know where he is?

Seriously, only Neifi could have an OBP lower than his BA. Exactly what you want out of the 2nd spot in the lineup.

Having your two worst hitters at the top of the lineup is a very sound strategy.

Hey Dude, don't worry. Dusty had a talk with Pierre, he's sure he's gonna come out of the funk. He was very attentive...

It's mind boggling that Bynum is our only option if we don't want to play Jones against LHP.

Hendry is just waiting until Pagan the savior is back.

Neifi Perez should never start for the Cubs. Ever. Let alone hit 2nd. ](*,)

I wouldn't argue the point with you, as stated, but at the same time, I defy you to name somebody on our roster that hits right handed and has outproduced Neifi hitting in the second slot. Now, that's pathetic, no?

And we thought our 1and2 were fixed when Pierre got here. Are we eternally doomed at the 1 and 2 spot? Dare I say. . . . . . CURSED!!? ::GASP!!::

Consider this....... Neifi Perez IS your average CUBS #2 hitter.......

batting 2nd AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS

Perez 23 4 7 1 0 0 8 2 0 1 0.304 0.292 0.348 0.639

totals 255 30 68 6 3 3 89 16 9 40 0.267 0.289 0.349 0.638

Murton has a .333 OBP in the 2-hole.

Yes, that's true. I was only measuring by OPS, and you can make a valid argument that OBP is a better measure of a #2 hitter.

batting 2nd AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
Perez 23 4 7 1 0 0 8 2 0 1 0.304 0.292 0.348 0.639
Murton 11 1 3 0 0 0 3 0 1 3 0.273 0.333 0.273 0.606
Cedeno 92 5 23 1 2 1 31 5 2 19 0.250 0.266 0.337 0.603

I don't remember if Dusty has ever hit him there, but I'd like to see Murton bat second. I'd bet my bank account (pretty small bet) that Murton would outproduce Neifi in the 2 hole.

Two things:

1) People need to stop using the phrase "2 hole."

2) Has anyone explained to Dusty that Perez can't even hit the ball? It isn't like last year, where he at least had a respectable batting average but drew no walks and had little power. He can't hit at all anymore. Our first two hitters are even worse than they were last year.

Are you sure on the obp for Perez? It shows a .292 obp, but a ba of .304.

It's right. Neifi must have had a sac fly. Sac fly's count against your OBP, but not against your BA.
