Bruce's article says he won't even swing a bat for the first time till next week.

Could Lee be out until July 1?

“There’s a possibility for anything,” O’Neal said. “Obviously, it’s not what we’re hoping, but right now I’d say he’s still at best the middle of next week before doing any swinging.”

I still can't understand why people thought he'd come back so quickly after having a cast on his wrist.

Because Lee set his own goals a bit too high, and a lot of people believed his estimates rather than the trainers/doctors estimates.

Exactly, and now people are actually surprised when he says he doesn't have the mobility.

I've thought all along we'd be lucky to get him back by July. Doesn't matter anyway. What's the rush? Spring training doesn't start until February.

I was thinking July at the time he got hurt. I have a broken thumb right now and I can't do anything for 2 months...let alone play profesional baseball!

Exactly. No point in rushing him back. This season is already in the toilet. He should take his time coming back.

No, no, you're wrong! Lee comes back, and Pierre will magically become a great leadoff hitter, everyone will get hits with RISP, Kerry Wood will be cured, Mark Prior will regain his old form, and we'll make the playoffs!

Exactly, and I find it disturbing that the team and Lee are even worried about meeting a timeline. Once it heals, pick up a bat. Rushing back can cause more trouble.

“Not as good as I thought it would,” Lee said when asked how the wrist feels now. “The doctor told me the day I took the cast off, ‘It could be three weeks before you pick up a bat.’ I didn’t really believe him because I never experienced it. So, obviously, it’s just a slow process, getting the strength back and getting the ligaments to work together.”

Lee hasn’t set a return date, but late June looks like the best-case scenario. Even then, it’s difficult to say how effective he will be because doctors have told Lee the bone won’t be “100 percent for a couple more months.”

“Tuesday will tell a lot,” he said. “If I can swing dry swings, then I should be able to do soft toss. Once you start hitting, it won’t be too long, I don’t think.

“It’s extremely frustrating. Sometimes I just want to say, ‘forget it’ and run out there and play. It’s been so long. It’s finally nice to see some light at the end of the tunnel, and hopefully I’ll be out there soon.”

Yeah, this doesn't surpise me at all. I really expected the delay, he seemed over-enthusiastic right when he got his cast off. I imagine it's killing him to not be able to play.
