Shouldn't Baker be playing Barrett everyday until his suspension? Barrett is one of the few right-handed offensive threats that the Cubs have and they were facing a lefty in Minute Maid Park where the LF fence is 315 feet away.

He has been playing more than normal already. I have no problems with him getting a day off. Yes, even if that means Hank plays.

I just wish that he'd played Hank against a righty. I know that he doesn't hit righties as well as lefties, but he's not going to give you much offense either way, and Barrett has hit lefties really well this year.

"We just have to figure a way to get to these lefties," Baker said.

because if he had started with his .308 v. lefties baker wouldn't have been able to accomplish this:

Jun 7 The Chicago Tribune reports the Chicago Cubs starting lineup for the June 6 game included six players hitting .234 or under against left-handers: OF Juan Pierre (.205), SS Ronny Cedeno (.193), 2B Todd Walker (.234), 3B Aramis Ramirez (.154), OF Jacque Jones (.231) and C Henry Blanco (.143).

and four of those six were at or well below the mendoza line.

Pat said during the broadcast yesterday that Dusty calls Blanco "the fixer" and sends him out whenever a pitcher needs "fixing". So I guess he was hoping Blanco could call a better game and help Wood out. (yeah that went well)

Does Dusty have anyone who can fix Blanco?

But Dusty should be able to figure out that Wood, while recovering, will be giving up some runs and might need the offensive cathcher rather than the defensive catcher.

The bolded section made me laugh hard enough that I was unable to read the rest of the post.... :D

What was the problem? Barrett needed a rest, and Hank went 1-2 (which was a 2B) and actually walked in 3 PA.

I know he's been horrendous this season, but when Barrett needs a day off, it's gotta be Blanco in there. At the very least, we can be assured he will hit 8th and play well defensively.

I would rather Dusty would have played Barrett against the LHP last night and gave Jones the night off. Then sit Barrett today against the RHP and play Jones. Just the opposite of what Dusty is actually doing by sitting Jones against the RHP today. Our manager is a moron.

Sitting Jones today while playing him last night is completely assinine. That's just further proof that Dusty pays no attention to statisics whatsoever. That is of course, assuming Jones didn't come in and ask for the day off or something due to soreness.

Earth to Dusty: "When your team is offensively challenged, you don't sit Barrett (one of your best hitters) against a lefty at Minute Maid Park and then sit Jones (one of your hottest hitters) against a righty the next day."
