Wow, Jacque is murdering RHP this year: .333/.372/.570/.943

That is the line of a great hitter. Too bad he can't hit LHP as well.

Maybe we can catch lightning in a bottle.

This is the Cubs. We've caught lightning in a bottle exactly ONE time that I can remember.

Glendon McFatty in 2004.

Randall Simon, 2003. Oh yes. Big boy was slappin' homers from all angles! Then he returned to the Pirates and quietly disappeared.

Tuffy Rhodes, Opening Day 1994 (?)

i haven't seen too many threads of late noting that jones is absolutely killing the ball and that his average is at .310. what gives...are cubs fans only good for dwelling on the negative? is his performance driving everyone crazy who made a habit of coming on here and ranting about how he was the worst signing and should be benched for pie?

I have a bet that jones won't hit less than .270, 20 hr, 75 rbi...he's actually making me nervous now. I'll take the loss if its good for the cubs though.

As of last night, Jones' ops was .898 and Brian Giles was at .798.

Looks like a surprisingly good pickup. Basically, got 100 more point of ops for half the cost.

Wow!

.050 more points in OBP, and he'd be coming out of Petco and into a more hitter friendly environment.

For twice the cost.

care to believe this? middle of may or so i changed my avatar to jonesy's team pic, and since then hes been steadily improving to be a brightspot on this team, and even crazier is that was my initial intention, as superstitous as i am (like any good cub fan).

It would be money well spent compared to Jones' deal.

I would much rather have Giles' OBP than Jones' SLG.

Also, I really don't think there's any way Jones maintains this level of production while Giles will probably improve from where he is right now.

to be fair then, if we are to assume that jones will return to career numbers, then the same should be expected of pierre.

maybe jones will have a career year.

Maybe. And maybe he doesn't get a hit for the rest of the year. His history tells us that neither of those are likely alternatives, though.

Do you think that Pierre would catch fire if someone used his photo as an avatar?

i wouldn't be surprise if he puts up a .850 ops. lee & barrett became better hitters after joining the cubs, so maybe jones too.
