Let me preface this saying I know it would never happen, however..

I dont know how he would do, or what his skills are. But I do know everyone on that team respects him highly, and he is a very smart player. I'd bet he could do a helluva lot better than Baker.

Thoughts?

My first impression is that he could manage strategically very well. My second impression is that having to deal with the personality aspects of managing would be a hassle for him, and one that he wouldn't have the desire to take on too soon.

Not too many pitchers have transformed themselves into successful managers.

He could, but I don't know if he'd want to make that commitment anytime in the foreseeable future.

Too bad...I was hoping someday down the line to see Carlos Zambrano, manager...

I think Maddux could properly fill out a lineup card. Regardless of anything else he did on the job, that would be an upgrade. Edited by bobbyd20

I think Maddux could fill all the requirements of a good manager. From everything I've heard him say, he seems to be a great baseball mind. He, obviously, knows pitching inside and out. But also, you always hear about how he studies up on the guy he's going to face next time out, his strengths and weaknesses. I'm pretty sure he could handle the offense, as well:

-I'm sure he could fill out a lineup card

-He could do wonders for the pitchers and catchers

-He most likely researches future opponents better than current cubs management (*coughremlingeragainstleftiescough*)

-I bet he can orchestrate a proper double switch.

I would like to see Steve Stone as manager and Maddux as pitching coach. That would be sweet.

Agreed. That would be amazingly awesome. Too bad Stone is blacklisted and Maddux doesn't want to coach. We'll end up with Dick Pole as manager and Rusch as pitching coach.

Warning...attempt at humor....

So, say he was pitcher/manager. When he is on the mound and started talking to himself, would that count as a coaching visit? Could he only talk to himself one time before taking himself out? Thank You, I'll be here all week!
