That fits in with today's move. As pointed out in Transactions, Guzman was sent down today and Ryu called up. I expect to see Ryu sent back down on Thursday to make room for Wood, but in the meantime we have another bullpen arm rather than Guzman taking up a roster spot when he'd be sent down to make room for Wood anyway.

lol

is anyone else concerned about his velocity, or is the Des Moines gun typically slow???

89-93 is not "Wood-esque"

Hopefully Wood brings his bat with him. Depending on the lineup in his starts he should probably be hitting cleanup. :P

That'll be nice.

Cubs.com[/url]"]Recovery is the key, and Wood said he felt better on Saturday than he did after his first Minor League rehab start on May 7.

"That's a good sign," Wood said. "It's my fourth start. It feels like I'm in Spring Training still. I don't think I ever come out of Spring Training throwing 96, 97 [mph]. I wouldn't expect it to change after shoulder surgery. I'm building my arm strength and getting my pitch count up."

As I mentioned elsewhere, it's something to keep an eye on, but I wouldn't be overly concerned about his velocity. He topped out at 97 in Peoria. If he's not around 95 consistently by his third start, then there may be something, but it's too soon to really make much of it.

The loss of velocity after surgery is what I was worried about the most.

Wow, what a great day to have an NSBB get together in the LF bleachers!

And when I win the Jackie Robinson jersey, oh it will be a great day.

Less velocity = more control = less walks? No?

Greg Maddux would disagree...

Maddux has always had pinpoint control even when he was able to throw in the 90's. Just because someone loses velocity doesn't mean he will all of a sudden be able to control his pitches.

Woody shown on the bench today - good to see it.

Hey CubbieRich - is he infecting and contaminating the team by being on the bench with them now?
