There is apparently a clause in his contract that allows him to leave at the end of this year, if he feels he is being underpaid as a 3rdbaseman. Would hate to see him exercise this and have us search again for a replacement.

Yeah...cause he's going to get more $$ from somewhere else at his current production level.

Thats why he has added 25 points to his AVG since this weekend?, only idiots thought he would stay cold all season

Aram would get good money wherever he went, a decent 3rd baseman that hits for power and average

agreed. He would have to really turn it on to get the kind of money to better his contract.

for 10 million, or whatever he is going to make next year, I am not so sure that other teams will shell out that kind of money for a guy that can't play a full season and doesn't always show the desire you like to see in a guy you are paying that much money to, well maybe the Red Sox, but they already have Manny, and Aramis is no Manny.

You dont think other teams outside of the red soxs would give more money for a guy who hits 300, 30+ home run, OBP at or above 350 and around 100Rbis in a year

that would be typical though, go get rid of someone who has been consistent and get someone who was good 3 years ago and hope he turns out to be that player again ( Jock and Pierre, no we didnt get rid of CF or RF)

I still want to keep him. Not sure he's going to approach those numbers this year. We'll see. It's a more difficult lineup to hit in than he's used to. Well---not since his Pittsburgh days anyway.

on May 25th of last year, he was hitting .226, i dont see any reason barring injury for that to change

i do think it would be in our best interest to really explore Miggy Cabrera-I know it sounds obvious but for me 1) he is dominican like Aram so that may make him want to stay and 2) it gives us a viable offensive 3rd baseman if Aram decides to leave- at this point thro everything not named Pie and Marshall at the fish to see if they bite-

He's not going to hit .228 all season. He's raised his AVG 30 points in 4 games, and his BABIP is way below league average, let alone his career average.

He's going to be fine. Whether or not we have enough other guys in the lineup to score runs consistently is another story.

As far as his opt out clause, I'm not worried about it at this point. If we go into the tank or soemthing, then I'll be concerned, but he's expressed a desire to stay here ever since 2003.

You mean like he's doing now, and like he did last year?

I agree but i highly doubt Hendry would do that

If Aram did stay, maybe he would go to 2nd base because Walker wont be back i dont think after what happened in the spring

I think it would be much more likely for Miggy to move to a corner outfield spot.

Cabrera is Venezuelan, like Zambrano, not Dominican, like Ramirez.

I never said anything about getting rid of him. I simply made the point that UNLESS he picks it up he will have a difficult time getting a contract that guarantees him more than what he will already make next year.

You're joking right? Aram at second base would be a disaster.

He has already started to pick it up (900 OPS past 7 days) and is highly likely to keep it picked up for a while. Even if he finishes 2006 with numbers below 2005, he could easily get more money than he's guaranteed right now. Salaries are on the rise again. Ramirez will get paid.

unfortunately i think any deal involving Miggy will probably have to include Murton-he's young with success at the ML level making the minimum- Id hate it, but for Miggy Cabrera i would let "money" go -

Guzman+Murton+R.Hill+Harvey?

Pie is probably not going to be a leadoff hitter and more likely would bat sixth or seventh, at least to start out. I would say whoever you bring in to play second would be your logical choice to leadoff, maybe EPatt? I think Cedeno could possibly handle batting leadoff, but it isn't his ideal spot in the lineup.

I would be ecstatic if we could get Cabrera for a guy who has a future as an average corner outfielder (murton) a guy who will always be injured (Guzman) a guy who will never get his control down at the major league level (hill) and a guy who will never have success above A ball (Harvey)

Cabrera is good, real good.
