If Albert were the 31st team in MLB, the following absurdity would be a reality:

HR Totals:

27. Seattle 21
28. Cubs 21
29. San Diego 19
30. Pujols 16
31. Kansas City 15

good to see the cubs solved their problem of too many homeruns!

last years team was too reliant on home runs

this years team is too reliant on the opposing defense making four straight errors

no way man - speed never slumps! Just look at all the runs we've produced this week alone! 2!

Just last week, Freddie Bynum sprinted all the way to Naperville and back. And he still had the energy to dress and sit on the bench. Top that, Albert Pujols!

At this point, the only good the team's much vaunted "speed" can hopefully do is end these late night west coast games a little quicker before I go to bed furious and betrayed.

LOSE FASTER!

LOSE FASTER!

Watching the Cubs "hit", is like watching Charlie Brown runnings towards Lucy---who has the football---and at the last second, just as Charlie is trying to kick the ball, Lucy pulls the ball away, thus Charlie completely misses the football and lands on his back.

Hyperthetically question:

Who would win: The Cubs or the kids from South Park?

And he has 30 walks to 8 strikeouts this year. Note that the following players are considered among the best hitters of all time (listed in order of OPS+):

Babe Ruth (2062 BB/1330 K in 2503 G)

Ted Williams (2021 BB/709 K in 2292 G)

Barry Bonds (2311 BB/1434 K in 2730 G)

Lou Gehrig (1508 BB/790 K in 2164 G)

Rogers Hornsby (1038 BB/679 K in 2259 G)

Mickey Mantle (1733 BB/1710 K in 2401 G)

Ty Cobb (1249 BB/~500 K in 3035 G)

Jimmie Foxx (1452 BB/1311 K in 2317 G)

Mark McGwire (1317 BB/1596 K in 1874 G)

Stan Musial (1599 BB/696 K in 3026 G)

Not to mention others like Tris Speaker, who had a 4:1 BB/K ratio, or Willie Mays, who walked about once every other game.

Now, one might think that somebody in the Cubs' system would look at baseball history and say "hey, it looks like the guys who controlled the strike zone the best and forced pitchers to throw good pitches" or "hey, Albert Pujols is having his best season and it happens to coincide with him honing his plate discipline even further." But, I guess they'd prefer to just cast their lot with the Jacque Jones, Juan Pierres and Neifi Perezes of the world.
