Why not give this kid a try? He's doing well in AA...he can't be worse than what we've got on the field right now...youth is the only thing that is performing for us this year. I like the idea better than Conine or Millar...

It's so good to see his name come up again. I was really hoping he could help the Cubs before he had all the injury problems. If he keeps hitting well he should be called up. Can't be much worse than what we've seen lately from the Cubs.

What would you have him do? Since he's a LH hitter, he's not much of a platoon candidate with Jones. Do you want him on the bench? Personally I'd rather the Cubs give more bench spots to minimum wage kids who at least have a chance of producing than guys making 2, 3 or 4 times that much that are almost a lock not to produce.

At this time though, I don't see much need for Nic. Although if they need somebody on the 60-day DL when Miller comes off, he might do the trick.

And yes, he is off to a nice year with his FSL and SL stats combined.

Honestly I don't care where we play him at this point...he could possibly play first if it keeps Nefailure out of the lineup...and even though he's a lefty he has to hit them better than Jones.

I like him better than Conine or Millar too but for different reasons. I got to see a few really good games out of Nic in Des Moines a few short years ago, and I have been a big fan of his since. It's nice to see him healthy and off to a great start, but he's still got quite a bit of work to do to get ready. His overall body of work at AAA leaves a lot to be desired.

guys,

i tried to tell you this in the other thread- jones is going no where, jones will not platoon(maybe, just maybe he will get a day off vs lefties occasionally).

our newly signed wonderful GM signed jones to big money to be our stud outfielder. benching him or even platooning him will be admitt ing that he(hendry) made an awful mistake....and that will not happen, especially with an unsigned manager...

it's ok though only 2 years and 135 games to go!~

which is why he will trade Nic for an overpayed "vetern"

You're talking about the same GM that has recently pulled the plug on "his" guys like Hawkins, Farnsworth, Patterson, etc. when they weren't working out.

Hendry's not above admitting mistakes on guys.

Frustratingly slow, I'll give you.

Nic Jackson has been around a long time. It's hard to imagine him becoming an impact player at the ML level. It's even harder to imagine him surpassing Pie on the depth chart. If he did get traded he likely wouldn't be worth much given his age and his injury history.

I think that the small number of ABs in the southern league will need to be increased before we see him as a potential Wrigley OF. What is interesting is that the organization stuck with him through some pretty horrific injuries. Seeing Nic not give up through it all gives me a huge amount of respect for him. I think he should remain in AA for the remainder of the season. Its more of a pitcher's league and sucess there would be a huge increase to his confidence.

I still remember him being annointed as Sosa's sucessor and in reality he was predicted to be in the big leagues by 2006. He's not that far behind his original projections. How old is he? Murton's age?

yet another example of the closer a guy gets to Wrigley Field, the more he refuses to take a walk?

In this case, I think it's more of an example of a guy tearing the cover off the ball so often he doesn't get to many counts where he could walk.

We'd have room for Nic if Hendry would or could trade Juan Pierre for the equivilent of three pitching prospects.

I should elaborate. I'm not attempting to say that Nic is or should have been our everyday CF. I didn't like the Pierre trade when they made it, and I don't like it even more now. He's a good guy, but he's an absolute hack.

And when the time does come that the Cubs are obviously not going to be around come October, then get whatever you can for Pierre. Hopefully, it will be the equivilent of 3 pitching prospects.

With Nic Jackson, Adam Greenberg, Pie and Hairston, they have depth at the position, and I'm not so sure that any of them couldn't be just as productive as Pierre, and most are much cheaper.

I understand, I was just shocked by the irony

Which irony? The irony that no matter who Cubs management wants to stick in CF will be lousy?

The irony that the Cubs could attempt to get back the same equal value in trade for Pierre that they gave up to get him in the first place?

won't"can't get the ball out of the infield" be a free agent?

Yes. Which is all the more reason to attempt to move him at the deadline. Someone may be willing to overpay for a "lead off" hitter/CF.

If Pierre ends up the season with a .300 AVG/.315 OBP and scores 100 runs, I'd be real worried the Cubs will see this as acceptable production from a lead off hitter and proceed to give him a ridiculous contract that makes the Jacque Jones contract look like a steal in comparison.

I think it's the latter.

I don't want to see Nic rushed up like Guzman has been. He's still in rehab mode after barely playing the past 3 seasons.
