From ChicagoSports.com: The Cubs came into Wednesday's game leading the National League with a .292 average with runners in scoring position.

I'd guess this is only because we've had so few runners in scoring position that Murton's hits bring our average up.

I was stunned when I saw that too.

Of course they plummeted to third at .281 after last night behind Colorado and San Francisco.

However, the Cubs are DFL when it comes to RISP with two outs. They have a .176 average. Funny thing though, No. 15 is Cincinnati at .179 and No. 1 is Pittsburgh at .295.

Would have been nice if Nef or Walker could have driven in a few of those 7 runners both left on base last night.

Like I said last night. Neifi struck out to allow Maddux to walk in a run. He was just trying to save us again, by NOT GIDP.

He's a great team player, as Joe Morgan would put it.

My favorite part was him knowing...that despite the pitcher walking the two previous batters to load the bases...that it was in the teams best interest for him to swing away at anything close...you don't get that kind of skill with a youngster.

The pop-up was the greatest contribution we could have expected from Neifi. I was so happy he didn't GIDP that just having one out was reason to celebrate.

the scary thing is that the cubs are second to last in the NL in runs even though they're hitting well w/ guys on base. imagine how bad it's gonna get when the cubs' average w/ RISP 'regresses to the mean.' ouch.

They've got the hitting with RISP thing down, but obviously Dusty and Clines need to work with them on hitting with RISP and two outs.

Anyone know appropriate drills to improve production in that situation?
