I've got an RCA off air antenna and I get in Fox and other channels real strong. Like 80%. But WGN-DT is about 46% sometimes 56% then dips down alot. Is it a weaker signal compared to other stations? It's about the ONLY one out of 15 or so that doesn't give me a constant good signal.

I don't have the model # off hand but it was a $59.99 one at Best Buy. I HAVE tried changing directions, lowering and raising gain, and messsed with the antennas. So what way am I gonna have to go to get WGN-DT? It is 29.9 miles and "frequency assignment" is 19 (<-??)

What model should I be trying next? I was going to try the Zenneth Silver next and see how that works.

The Silver Sensor is a nice antenna, but to me you're not really trying unless you have a full-blown outdoor antenna rig. Get a decently-sized Channel Master or Wineguard up on the roof, or if you're really into this, something more exotic — you won't be fretting over weak signals anymore.

Try these guys. Their antennas are great.

I'd like to sample an XG91. Have you tried it?

No I haven't: that's too heavy duty for what I need. I've used the DB2 indoors in Lincoln Park and Downers Grove with no problems.

I would recommend you go over to avsforum.com try two of the subforums for more info.

The HDTV Reception Hardware area:

and the Chicago OTA (over the air) HDTV thread.

I think the XG91 might have been what some yahoo farmboys used in southern Wisconsin to get signals from Madison, Rockford, Chicago and Milwaukee. There was a thread over at avsforum a couple of years ago where they mounted it on top of a 100 foot tall grain silo along with a motor to rotate the antenna. I think they were pushing 110 miles away from some towers and still having stable signals.

avsforum.com is one of my favorite haunts.

I'm a yahoo myself, and the XG91 is just barely enough for my needs. I have to cover 80+ miles with deficient line-of-sight and over mountainous terrain. Once I get my tower up, we'll see what she can do.

Two words:

Cable TV

First of all he might be in a rural area where cable TV is not available.

Second of all WGN9 in HDTV is only available over the air and via cable in the Chicago area. Even if he could get cable he might be stuck with the WGN national superstation (outside Chicago). That channel is standard def only, carries no WB programming and I think carries fewer Cubs games.

80 miles is pushing it unless you're on top of a hill, have a tower to mount your antenna and a clear line of view to the tower.

OTA reception is strictly a hobby for me. I enjoy the challenge.

I'm currently working with a roof mount, which affords me good reception only in optimum conditions. I'm confident that a big-ass tower will aid my chances considerably.

DTV would work. WGN carries all the cub gameson WGN in Chicago. Plus you can get EI.

DirecTV would work, but only for standard def. If the original poster in looking for HDTV Cubs games from WGN, that's not an option with Extra Innings.
