i don't think his hitting style fits the 2 hole with Pierre leading off. he spoils a lot of pitches and doesn't take many. it's pretty hard to nab a bag when that happens.

It's pretty hard for Pierre to nab a bag when Dusty has Cedeno bunting almost every AB.

true dat.

it just reminds me of neifi batting in the 2 hole, fouling off pitch after pitch with pierre green lighted, looking to nab a bag. not cool.

I really believe Ronny is a better choice to bat 2nd than Neifi...by a wide margin. :D

That's a real good point. We have to remember who our other options are. Ronny is insanely better than Bynum or Neifi in the #2 spot.

I wish I hadn't forgotten to start Maddux on my fantasy team today.

There is no comparison b/n Cedeno and Neifi. One is hitting .370, the other .208. If Cedeno keeps hitting doubles and triples, I could care less if he does it on the first pitch!

I like Ronny in the 2 hole.

Both spoil a ton of pitches early in the count. Watch how Walker hits in the 2 hole and how Cedeno hits. Huge difference in approach.

Either way, Maddux is done.

BTW, on my way to work I was listening to the XM feed and it was the Cards radio. Who are those guys? The PBP guy kept calling Maddux, Maddocks. VERY annoying

Who cares if Pierre can steal or not if the batter in the two hole is hitting .370?

ronny is not a 2 hole hitter.

Baker believes that only CF, 2B and SS's can hit 1st or second. I do think Ronny could be a decen 2 though.

we could have had men at 3rd and 2nd. with a Cedeno double, that's 2 runs, not 1. just a little more patience early in the count.

I have to admit I haven't seen a lot of Cub games lately but Ronny was fine in his pitch selection last year near the end before he got hurt.

It's not really a matter of pitch selection. It's willing to put yourself behind in the count (potentially) b/c you're taking a few pitches. Ronny is not a great 2 strike hitter. He really expands the zone. Maybe he's learned to get away from that by swinging early at stuff that looks good. That's not bad, but it's not what you want in the 2 hole with a premiere basestealer on 1st.

I think it depends on the situations and I think Cedeno can handle those situations. Yes, at times he needs to work a count but he has to be able to get on base too.

Thanks Fred, for some reason I thought he hit in the 2 hole last season more often.

That's only from this season.

Last year's numbers......

Cedeno AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
batting 2nd 24 4 7 1 0 0 8 1 1 6 0.292 0.346 0.333 0.679

Ya know what? We've heard nothing about Walkers defense at 1B. That is a good thing that there isn't anything to talk about there. He looks comfortable there to me.

That's Mike Shannon and the former Sox broadcaster (forgot his name).

OMG, Maddux's ERA is 0.99 He's never been 4-0 to start the year before. There's a first time for everything.

Yes he has - in 2000.

Hmm, I heard that on WGN radio so I took their word

for it.

he's been getting on base at a decent rate b/c his BA is ridiculous.

Bynum is really Macias....I'm convinced this to be true.

And still a good candidate then too.

He looks good there. It should be no problem for him to scoop out throws from the dirt...after all, he's a second baseman.
