Silverman on the am show advocating buying Clemens anything he wants to get him here. His theory it's all about the pitching. Thoughts?? Personally i think Nolan Ryan could pitch with this run support, it just isn't happening.

Pass. I don't think Fat Roger has anything left in the tank.

Yeah, he was only the best pitcher in baseball last year.

Who broke down the last month and a half...

He looked pretty darn good at the WBC too. I bet he'd be better than Glendon or Williams or Marshall this year.

I agree, but $20 million for a one year contract is a bit much. Trib would never do it.

I'm sorry, but unless Clemens can fill a gaping hole in our offense, he has no place on the Cubs.

Our pitching has been, and will once Wood/Prior/Miller return, a strength. As Clemens, who was as mentioned above was arguarbly the best pitcher in the NL last year, knows from experience, what good is a 1.87 ERA if your team doesn't score runs?

He was in the top 30 in innings pitched last year. He pitched just 14 innings less than Maddux and Z. He had the best ERA in baseball - 1.87  . He was #3 in MLB in WHIP. He was top 20 in K/9.

PECOTA - which has been pretty good at predicting player collapses in the past - sees him starting 24 games this year and being worth almost 6 additional wins to his team.

Is he worth the money he would get? That depends on who's paying him. If it's a playoff contender - the Yankees, the Red Sox, maybe the Cubs - sure he's worth it. If the Royals or the Reds were paying for him, it would be stupid because they're not close enough for him to make a difference.

If Clemens in a Cub uniform got Chicago to the World Series, I wouldn't mind if the team spent a ridiculous amount on him.

If we were going to go after a big money player to help this team, I wouldn't choose Clemens because I think it is a little risky given his age and layoff.

Why would Clemens come to the Cubs? The line of teams willing to give him anything he wants for his services forms to the left behind Houston, New York and Boston.

End of discussion.

I think for 18-20 million, Clemens would pitch for any competitive team, maybe even a non-competitive team like the Rangers.
