This stinks. The team had so much momentum. Hopefully it's just two weeks out and then another week of in-game back-to-speed adjustments for him.

It sucks also because it brings out a gatling gun's worth of Neifi responses which have thankfully been quiet for a week. I swear some people are addicted to Neifi-hate like it's crack - it doesn't matter what the topic is, or how distant from Neifi the converstaion is, people will find a way.

It's more likely that the triumverate of Mabry, Walker, and Hairston fill the majority of playing time at 1B and 2B. If Dusty proves otherwise, by starting Neifi in several games in row, then people can hate all they want. But the constant pre-emptive (and usually wrong) crying around here is ridiculous.

Pre-emptive and usually wrong? Um, maybe you didn't notice, but Dusty's first choice was to insert Neifi into the lineup. He's used Neifi as his go to guy before in tight spots, and clearly has an affinity for Neifi. Anybody expressing concern about Neifi getting more playing time due to this is absolutely justified.

Has it ever been pointed out here that Neifi is making a serious run at the title of worst hitter in the history of baseball? Substituting Neifi for anyone in your lineup is a bad thing, substituting Neifi for Lee is worthy of crying.

Only about 300,000,000,000 times. It's should also be noted an equal amount of times that Neifi is responsible for terrorism, slavery back in the 19th century, genocide in Africa, global warming, and the loss of every species that is now extinct.

Stupid Neifi.

No, see, the truth is he really does suck and hurts the team when he plays. Those other things are obviously untrue, which is why we don't talk about them when discussing the Cubs and/or Neifi. We talk about his suckage because he really does suck.

You do realize that inserting Neifi last night resulted in a GREAT stop on what would have been a single with either Walker or Hairston, that saved a run and let us get out of the inning down 2.

I think Neifi sucks, but I think what the "The Dude" is getting at is the unbridled hatred towards Neifi that implicates, even when he doesn't deserve to be implicated, and the props he deserves when he contributes like he did last night.

I realize this is because of Dusty's perpetual hard-on for Neifmeister, but that isn't Neifi's fault.

This statement is absoulte and untrue.

A correct statement would be:

The truth is he really does suck, and often hurts the team offensively when he plays.

I'm not saying he is a good player overall, but could you please point out to me how he hurt the team in last night's game?

The truth of the matter is there are a ton of teams that would love to have Neifi as a backup.

How many times do you have to hear that it's all about Dusty's usage, and not Neifi himself. All the complaints about "too much Neifi" bashing center on the idea that it's not his fault how much he sucks. I don't think people are blaming Neifi for sucking. I don't think people believe he could be any better. What people hate is Dusty's usage of Neifi, and a situation like this invites even further usage.

And this thread had very little to say about Neifi until people came on whining about how much people complain about Neifi.

I'm worried about Lee, not who is replacing him. Because no matter who it is, their presence over Lee is going to hurt this team immensely.

does any thread not become a Neifi debate anymore?

can we at least leave the thread updating the injury to our best player void of Neifi debate?

Whatever. That's about as disingenious as it gets, but it doesn't surprise me that you would say it. What a joke.

All the chicken littling about Neifi starting 39909320 games now, and freaking out about it changed the tone. The Dude (first person to defend Neifi) came in and merely said that Neifi probably wouldn't be starting because of Mabry and then others including YOU went off on how bad Neifi sucks (which he does).

Regardless you played just as big a role in the sidetracking of this tread as The Dude, the Neifi chicken littlers, and myself played. Of course you'll never admit it.

I think the old adage when you point at someone 3 fingers are pointing back at you should be busted out on Goony.

If people are going to come on here accusing everybody of unfairly bashing Neifi and complain that Neifi is even being discussed, then you're darn right I'm going to point fingers.

This was about the potential loss of Lee and the cast of characters that might replace him (which inevitably includes Neifi), until Neifi defenders tried to start another referendum on Neifi bashing.

So is there anything actually new on the injuries or was this entire thread the exact same Neifi debate that has taken place 38,283 times on this board?

I guess you weren't watching last night. Mabry was already out of the game. Walker HAD to move to first base. Either Neifi and Hairston was coming in.

If I recall correctly, Neifi saved a run by knocking down a ball that was headed into centerfield at one point. Might have been that same inning.

Nice. You are a guy, IIRC, who (rightfully) criticizes posters for generalizing or labeling others as "moneyballers". Way to fight fire with fire.

This is flat-out wrong. Read the first 5 pages of the thread again.

How many games has Neifi started in favor of Walker and Cedeno this year? Before the season started, multiple people on this board guanranteed Neifi would be higher on the depth chart than those two and would get more at bats than either even if/when all are fully healthy, and that Hairston never had a chance to start over Neifi.

They were wrong. Dusty's first choice this year has not been to insert Neifi into lineups - unless you're talking about last night, in which case, as a late inning defensive replacement - he was the correct choice. Neifi hasn't been the first bench option. It seems to me that the Neifi-hate is a comfort blanket for people anytime something on this team goes wrong.

How many games has Neifi started since Lee was injured? Zero, yeah? So that makes the Neifi concerns pre-emptive. Can't people at least cry after Neifi starts, if that is even the case (which is unlikely anyway)?

I have an idea. Let's sticky a "Neifi sucks" thread at the top. Let's also sticky a "Neifi doesn't suck" thread. Or maybe a "Neifi doesn't suck nearly as much as many claim, especially when used properly by Dusty" thread. Then, we can have all of our other threads Neifi free and still have a place to post our widely divergent opinions on the level of Neifi's suckitude.

Now, back to the topic. I know they said Lee is flying back to CHI today. Is the MRI scheduled for today, or do they have to wait until the swelling goes down?

Posted

If you guys want to pretend Neifi doesn't belong in a discussion about how Lee will be replaced, go right ahead.

I for one am really concerned about Lee and how his loss will affect the team, namely because at bats that would be his would likely be used up by others, most likely a combination of Mabry, Walker, Neifi and Hairston. This wouldn't be a good thing. I don't see how people can have a problem with others expressing concern.

Nobody said Neifi was going to play 30598245 games. But if Lee is down, he will probably play more than he would if Lee was healthy enough to play everyday, and that would hurt the team, just like Mabry playing frequently would hurt the team.
