Tonight in my boredom I was arranging some bookmarks, and adding some for our minor league teams, where I stumbled upon BA's great statistics page. This year they have included a schedule/results page, which is very handy. In this page they have links to the box score, game log, and post-game wrap(when available) for every game. When I stumbled upon this resource, I wondered if we could put this to good use. The one thing I came up with was using the logs and boxes to calculate splits for our minor leaguers. Nothing too complex, just a couple that would be useful in evaluation, like Left/Right and Home/Away.

Would anyone be interested in doing something like this? All it would take is taking a couple minutes the day after every game to calculate and update, and if we wanted someone(me?) could come up with a spreadsheet to make it easier to input and update. If we could get a person or two on each of our teams, we could really make this a great resource. Also, I know with our access to the Jaxx this year, we may be able to get this data already, which may eliminate the necessity to maintain something like this for them.

So if you're interested, or have another idea of that sort(hit/spray charts for hitters? :P ) let's hear it in this thread.

Heh, I used that page last year to calculate Sergio Mitre's L/R splits in about an hour (a boring early-morning finance class).

I can help if it's just one or two of the teams - especially while I look around for the opposing pitchers for the next day's pitching probables.

I'll help out. It's easier to get it started early in the season (like now) and update everyday. I did this last year for a couple players splits. It took me the most time to actually figure out which pitchers were LH.

If I had more time, I'd love to help the cause. However, I have several road trips this summer and a baby due in July!

I'll be more than happy to scan and post any sortable stats pages I pick up this season from the Jaxx Press Room.

I'm tracking it on the pitching side for some of the Daytona pitchers.

Would you mind doing Daytona as a team? If so, then Karen could do Peoria, and Raw and I can fight for the two upper level teams.

I put together a quick spreadsheet(download here) to make it easier to tally, and I could also try to make an effort to post the handedness of the opponents before the start of a series to make for faster tabulation(we could have a thread for this purpose).

Any other thoughts or volunteers?

I could volunteer to do the pitchers ... and I can at least try to get caught up on the hitters if you don't mind emailing me the spreadsheet you're working from (might as well standardize it amongst ourselves).

Actually, this type of info will be extremely easy to track using the database I'm building for the site being discussed here. Of course it will be a while yet before it's ready and up for use by site members, but in the meantime I'd be happy to answer any queries anyone might have. (Maybe we could set up a stat request thread?)

This may be a short lived project...

BK can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we should be able to get all this from the data we're collecting from gameday.

No work for me? I like the sound of that. :D

Great, I wasn't sure if the gameday data you used for Iowa would be as accessible.

What about the other affiliates? Iowa is the only team with gameday.

That database sounds pretty amazing.

They'll all be available. The data for gameday is there for all levels. We'll also be able to import 2005 data, as well.

Oh yeah, major league data, too.

The full set of data for 2005 is only available for major league teams. Many of the necessary data files are missing for the minor league teams before 2006. (Such as those that contain hit and pitch locations, for example.) The inning descripions are there so it should be possible to build a smaller subset of data, however.
