I dont even see him on any of the minor league rosters, i am assuming he will be in boise but am not sure. I thought it was almost a sure thing he would be in Peoria??? Did he get hurt or what?

There's been discussion of this in the threads announcing the rosters. There seems to be some speculation that he's remaining behind in extended spring training to work his pitch counts up, and that when he does he'll be added to Peoria. I don't think anything's been mentioned officially.

Is he doing towel drills yet?

I am sure he is yes. I know it has sort of become a joke in the Cubs organization, but the towel drill is a very important drill for pitchers to work on keeping their mechanics in line.

Is there any data on that or is this a new thing that looks good?

All things being equal (i.e., no arm troubles), I'd just as soon a pticher pitch.

I'm not sure how many pitchers actually use it. I've only seen Prior and a few pitchers for Cuba do it during the WBC. But the towel drill is just a simple, short activity of snapping a towel against someone's glove to get mechanics in line for a few minutes just before throwing. It doesn't take the place of throwing. It does nothing in terms of building up strength or endurance.

For what it's worth:

Cubs.com mailbag[/url]"]I teased Blasko this spring about the amount of emails I get about him. He's a popular guy. Blasko and pitchers Jerry Blevins and Mark Pawelek are among the players still in Mesa at the Cubs extended spring camp. Blasko is healthy. The Cubs just want to keep him in a controlled situation rather than put him in games. Blevins is working on changing his arm angle. Pawelek is 19 years old, and there's no need to rush him.

Jon is right...

As we said, it is simply to keep mechanics in line...if your mechanics are off it is harder than it looks to hit the glove (some use a flat hand). This helps to repeat the delivery and get extension towards home as well. The way it is done is that the receiver (guy with hand/glove extended) walks off about 5-10 steps (depending on pitcher) from where the pitcher's landing foot touches ground. The receiver then extends their hand out at about eye level while kneeling...If you have time yourself or have a young kid that could do it, have them try it out, it is more dificult to hit the hand cleanly than it looks.
