Child out of wedlock? Who cares.

Sueing because you feel your support money is unfair? Happens every day.

Your biological daughter being 16 and you've only seen her once? Wow, that's low.

I hope there's another side to this story because the one being presented here is pathetic. Just because she isn't one of your kids with your wife doesn't mean you should just pretend she doesn't exist.

Jerk. This is the part that I found the most fascinating:

Johnson is married to his wife Lisa

I was just about to come post that.

agree...hope there is another side to this. This certainly portrays Randy Johnson as a cold individual that has shunned his daughter because she was an "inconvenience". One would think that he would pay for his offspring to attend college and have some sort of relationship with her if that is what she desires.

New car, new computer, community college expenses. What I want to know is what did she do with the $70,000 a year she was getting in support from Johnson. While I don't condone his not being a part of his daughters life, this sounds like sour grapes on the mother's part. She agreed to the $5000/month plus $750/month in childcare expenses now she has to live with it.

Somehow I have trouble having sympathy for a guy who is making as much a year as him. Raising your child because you don't want to mess with it? $70 grand sounds like a ballpark figure.

I agree. It sounds to me like the mother was more than happy to keep him away from them in the beginning (16 years ago when he was a nobody), then started going after his money when he got rich. Randy is no saint (and this story has come out before), but the mother playing the "poor victim" here doesn't fly. I'm a firm believe in parents paying for their children's education, but that shady day care as a teen could have paid for community college.

My parent's helped me out very little with my college tuition (while they easily could have). I think it helped me appreciate my education a lot more. Student loans are readily available to most who want to go to college so I don't think that that is a big problem for most.

Agreed. I am not sure why Randy is being slammed here.

If you read between the lines, it looks like the mother is using her kid to get more cash. While I do not agree with Randy's decision not to be part of the child's life, I wasn't there so I don't know the real circumstances. If he is paying his fair share (relative to his salary) to support her, the rest is between him, his concious, and his G-d.

She should, and he should pay for his daughter to go to CC. Regardless of what he's paid until now, he's still the child's biological father. If he can't deal with that, he should have kept the Little Unit in his pants.

Just because someone makes a lot of money why should they HAVE to pay. A little hard work never hurt anyone. We wonder why our society is going to hell in a hand basket, everyone wants something for nothing, this is ridiculous. My parents had plenty of money but I wasn't allowed to get a car until I was able to afford to make the payments and pay for the insurance on my own. I had a moped for transportation until I was 21 years old.

Because HE IS HER FATHER. Just because your parents shafted you doesn't mean everyone else should suffer.

I don't feel shafted at all, I feel that my parents taught me at an early age the value of a dollar, which will carry me alot farther in life than expecting someonelse to provide for me. How can you say this girl is suffering when her mother was given $70k a year for her benefit, maybe you should be lambasting the mother for being irresponsible with the money that was given to take care of her. Like I said there is nothing wrong if her Parents want to give her all those things I am just saying it shouldn't be expected. It's not like they are homeless or something.

Paying for school should be expected. The other stuff is BS. The kid can get her own car, but college is much more important to try and instill life lessons. If you don't know the value of a dollar before paying for college, then school probably isn't going to help you.

And $16MM a year will pay for a lot of CC.

Are you talking about just in RJ's case? What if a family can't afford to pay for the kid's education, what should they do? Take a second mortgage on their home? A lot of kids now a days don't know the value of a dollar a lot of kids have never had to work and I see their parents bail them out of every mess they get into. You have to agree that a little self sufficiency is not a bad thing. Having a job in the summer to help defray the cost of school won't kill a kid.

That is neither here nor there.

How much money should a one night stand get to raise a kid?

How much should the lady get if it were you instead of him?

Just because he is stupid rich doesn't not entitle the mother to win the lottery.

Johnson should pay his fair share of her upbringing. I'd say $70,000 @ year ($5,833.33/month) for 18 years seem like a fair share to me (1.26 million).

Money is the primary discussion here, but I'm wondering what the true circumstance surrounding the unanswered letters may be.

My father made me get a student loan for the one year of school that wasn't covered by my scholarship (the 5th one..heh..yes i changed majors), But I can only imagine what it would have been like to not know my father. Keep in mind that Randy Johnson is alive. He's not a drifter. He's not in jail. He's not a herion addict. He's the adult. There should be some sort of relationship there, IMO. No?

I'm talking about everybody. If you can't afford it, that's one thing. But plenty of people can pay and choose not to, and try and get the government to subsidize as much as possible. Having the kid contribute is great. Teaching the value of a dollar, however, should be done far earlier than college age.

She's not asking for a house, a Lexus, and an Ivy League education. She's asking for CC, a truck, and a computer on top of the fact that her father has refused to see her for her entire life.

I totally agree, but then again we don't know the circumstances. If I had a child out there somewhere, I would definitely want a relationship with them.
