So, what have those who testified accomplished in the past year to rid the game of steroids? Well, Raffy and Sammy exited the game. Other than that...

I'm not a big fan of grandstanding politicians, but the fact remains that if Congress didn't get involved, the players union would never have caved in to the current policy - which by no means is perfect but it is a step in the right direction.

I'm probably in the minority, but i wish that Congress had been involved earlier. Steroids have severely tarnished the game. Unfort. owners weren't doing anything about, b/c they thought home runs brought people to the ballpark (and they probably did in '98 at least). It wasn't in the interest of the owners to immediately implement a strong testing policy. And Selig wasn't going to do it without the backing of the owners. He lacks courage. So it was about time that Congress force them to act. My only complaint is that Congress should have acted sooner, they should have called Bonds and Clemens to the stand, and they should have called some of the owners to testify. Ask them why they let it going on so long.

Congress didn't need the permission of McGwire, Sosa, Palmeiro, and Schilling to get involved. If I recall, none of those guy shed any light on the steroid problem at the hearing.

It only proved that Selig was cowardly enough to not stand up to Congress and to push for steroid testing and punishment, yet not strong enough to stand up to the MLBPA and get complete testing for HGH, etc.

It's not Congress's fault that they lied (Palmeiro) or were evasive (Sosa and McGwire). They had an opportunity to clear the air and they choose not to and now are dealing with the consequences.

Q. What was baseball's policy on steroids before Congress threatened to get involved? A. None

Q. What would baseball's policy be without congress? A. Maybe at best, Selig's water-downed joke of a proposal - if the players union allowed it.
