I think he's a great pitching coach. He gets the most out of his pitchers when they are healthy. Look at what he did with guys like Borowski, Farnsworth, and Clement.

The Farns had his best year away from the Cubs, though, and the organization as a whole seems to have a real problem keeping pitchers healthy.

I think that Larry knows what he's talking about, but I figured he would leave as well.

I don't put any blame on him for injuries though. It is not his call when to pull the pitchers and he has done about everything anyone can do to help out Kerry. It just hasnt worked out.

I don't think Rothschild has caused any injuries to Cubs pitchers, but I don't like him. I don't like him because of some of his philosphies. he sticks with his pitching patterns to the detriment of the team, ie. nibbling/going higher than high with two strikes, staying away in the late innings, never brushing hitters back.

also, alot of people like to point to Barrett's higher CERA. there are many reasons for it, and I believe Rothschild is one of them, because he takes over the pitch calling in all tough situations when Barrett is catching.

If things aren't working out you change them. Hendry, Baker and his entire staff have to go.

isn't that considered a big part of insanity: when you keep doing something over and over again even though it never works?

This is baseball. It's all about reputation. Once you get one, it's hard to lose it. A proven veteran is a proven veteran even if all he's done for years is prove he doesn't deserve a job. A good baseball man is usually just a guy with good stories who has been in the league for a longtime without winning anything or having the top job, and who happens to believe every cliche and pearl of conventional wisdom.

I think Larry has done some good things (developed Zambrano first and foremost). He helped Clement get better, but Clement also declined under his watch, and never solved his control issue. Walks have been a problem for all Cubs pitchers, and while that's probably mostly a personel problem and organization philosophy issue, Larry doesn't seem to do much to get guys to reduce the walks. He obviously has no idea how to help reduce injuries by pitchers. He might not be hurting guys, but he's not helping either.

I'd say most evidence points to Larry just being another pitching coach.
