Over here in England it was about 11pm when the first rumours of Prior and Lee first appeared. This morning i got up , started work and found out the news i was totally expecting. I posted an idea about what Lee and Murton would be worth in a worse case scenario a few days back and got blasted for raising the white flag in march. The only thing that really bums me about this team is Jones in RF. If we had gone in to the season with an OF of Murton, JP and Pie it would of at least be fun to watch. The only thing to debate this year is how we get better. We are not competeing its as simple as that so lets see if Hill and Guzman later in the year can pitch in the bigs. Give the riot a chance on the 25 man and maybe have a look at Marshall, Ryu etc.

As far as deals go how about D Lee to the Sox for Marte, Pappelon and another top prospect?. I would like to see a bunch of talented guys get a chance to prove themselves. I don't want to see Perez, Rusch, Maybury,Grissom,Jones on a team which now has little or no chance to contend. Hendry has made the problem worse with the aquistion of Jones because he limits the moves we can make for the future. I noticed Tim putting forward a suggestion of players who would make the club after early spring. maybe its time to take that attitude. For those who don't want to go young who would interest other clubs enough to give us quality SP?

As Jimmy V would say "Don't give up, don't ever give up." The season hasn't even started yet, let's see what happens. If Prior is out for any length of time you will very likely see some of the youngsters get their chance. There has been no diagnosis on Lee yet so I think the lineup will be o.k. Let's just wait and see what happens when the season starts. The Cub's have enough money and time to let things play out. If things go horribly bad, I would hate to see them just quit. I don' t think they should have to rebuild like a small market team.

I've got a solution for you. Just don't watch the games! :P

Please do me a favor and just don't watch the games this year. It just seems every post I see from you is about as critical and pessimistic as I have ever seen.

Well, I guess you nearly attacked the post. Wait, no you didn't. but you did manage to include the word "post" in your attack on the poster.

Well done.

Oh ok. So we're allowed to attack the Cubs, and any person in the Cubs association, but not any poster. Ok. Sorry! Post changed. I'll attack the IDEA in the future.

Other than that fact, his overall point makes some sense to me. It may be only March, but it's clear this is not a contender. I'm not sure what sense there is to throwing guys like Neifi and Grissom out there day after day. What purpose does it serve on a 3rd or 4th place ballclub?

Sure, there could be some miracle and the Cubs could win some games. But it's a real outside shot now with the injuries. Doesn't a youth movement at least need to be put back on the table as an option?

Not a youth movement. Just smarter spending. We may need to get rid of Hendry, Baker, MacPhail after this year. I just hope we get some good minds running the show if we fail this year.

Yunno. Minds that won't pay $2.5-$3.0m for the likes of Neifi, Rusch, Jones, ect. . .

EDIT: It CHANGED M.c.f.a.i.l to the proper spelling??!?! Smart messege bored. LOL.
